Windows 10: Win 10 Update Database Corruption

Brink, I am sorry but I went to bed at 3 am and the iso file was downloading still at the time, but must have shut down because it only partially downloaded. I would greatly appreciate it if you would make the link live again.

Just checking in with you to see if you were able to get the 17063 ISO file downloaded. *Smile

 

Brink, I was able to complete the download and burned the .iso file to a DVD. (Before installing Build 17063 from the DVD I backed up my C drive with the Macrium Reflect program). I am afraid to say that the installation failed again at the working on the update stage, which reached 75% and then failed. Once again my PC was restored to Build 17046. When my PC restarted I got error codes OxC1900101-Ox40017, and Windows said the installation failed "in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation".

I will run check disk on the C drive, and will then run the administrator command DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, and if that succeeds I will try yet again to install Build 17063.

Do you have any comments?

 

Brink, firstly I ran winver and have a correction to my previous post, namely I found I am on Build 16299. I ran the administrator command DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and it completed successfully. I ran chkdsk /C/f//r and was told "Scanning and repairing disk C". I don't know what repairs were made. Should I now try again to install Build 17063?

 

Sure, you could try again if you like in hopes to avoid a clean install.

i would recommend to create a bootable USB from the ISO file instead though.

If all else fails, you can boot from your 17063 USB to clean install it.

Brink, I tried again but failed again, so I chose to clean install from a bootable USB drive created by Rufus. I have got to the stage where Windows asks for a phone number, and I entered my mobile number and received a text message asking me to install an app, but I can't do that on my mobile as it's not a smart phone. There is no "Next" button on the installation window, so what on earth do I do now? (I am sending this from my laptop).

 

Brink, I was not expecting anything to happen but I clicked close to the bottom of my screen and installation carried on. I suppose there was an out of sight next button close to where I clicked.

 

Brink, Build 17063 finally installed!! I can't thank you and the other administrators who helped me enough. I had over 50 failed installation attempts previously and had chat sessions with 5 Microsoft support persons who were no help at all. In fact they gave me more work by resetting my PC without telling me, and the last 2 support persons ended the chat session without any warning. One person said Microsoft couldn't help me with Insider Preview problems and referred me to the Microsoft Communities Insider Support team, but they weren't helpful at all. Once again, sincere thanks and a Happy New Year to you and your colleagues.
