    WIN 10 upgrade from V 1903 to V 2004


    I recently purchased an HP Envy Laptop and it came installed with V. 1903 Build 18362.778, install date 03/17/20.


    EDGE version is 84.0.522.44.


    I have Windows Updates paused thru 02/08/21.


    My Laptop & Windows & Applications are working just fine.


    I create manual Restore Points on C drive & create USB Recovery Drives on a frequent schedule.


    How long can I safely stay on V. 1903?


    With the seemingly constant news of issues with V. 2004, how safe or stable is it to upgrade to V. 2004 as of July 28, 2020?

    Hi JD,

    I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

    Windows 10 1903 servicing ends on December 10th, 2020.

    As of now, you should not upgrade to ver 2004, due to a number of compatibility holds. My recommendation would be in November 2020.

    We also strongly recommend updating Windows Monthly with patches as they increase the security of the OS. Unless you press check for updates manually, you would likely not be offered ver 2004.

    Thank you for your reply.

    • I could not find the *dump files, I don't think I enable it,
    • I will work on the MSinfo file and the Specc files when I have more time in hand.
    Questions:-

    • you're suggesting that I should install the V.2004 and let it crash (if it'll crash)?
    • since there is no .dump file exist (or I couldn't find one), the troubleshooting still good just using the MSinfo and the Specc files that reflects my current system state (V.1909)?
