win 10 version 1607 to 1703 upgrade failure code 0xc1900200

On one of my computers the windows update displayed an option for an early windows update.

This update failed with error code 0xc1900200.

The size of the partition is 100 MB.

One computer that has already been upgraded has a post upgrade partition size of 100 MB. It was a windows 10 iso clean install of 1607 followed by a Microsoft upgrade assistant upgrade.

Apparently 100 MB does not equal 100 MB if the drive manufacturers are different????

These are the links that I have come across so far in looking for a solution so far.

    1) Has anyone encountered this update error 0xc1900200 from 1607 to 1703?

    2) Short of clean install what method have you used to update?

    3) What other options are there to upgrade if your files are not yet backed up?

    :)

  2. Upgrading to Win 10 version 1703

I have a boot drive which indicates it will fail imminently. It has a bootable version of Win 10 Pro, version 1607, which was upgraded from a purchased 8/8.1 disk. The upgrade to Win 10 was done from an ISO DVD during the free upgrade period, hence I do
not have a Win 10 product ID. When I try to upgrade this drive to 1703, I get a 'something went wrong' message, and an error code of 0.8007000d.

I purchased a new drive (same size) and did a clean install of Win 10 using the ISO DVD. I did a successful upgrade to 1703.

However, I would like to avoid transferring 1.5 TB of data and files to the new drive, so I decided to do a clone, disk image from the failing drive. Now I have a cloned image on the new drive, which works fine, but has Win 10 version 1607. Once again, I
tried to upgrade the cloned disk and got the same 'something went wrong' and error code 0.8007000d.

I'd rather live with 1607 than manually transfer all my data files to a clean version of 1703, but I'd like to upgrade to 1703 if possible. I'm afraid if I don't do it now, I will be stuck with 1607 until I buy a new computer.

Is there anyway "I can have my cake and eat it too"?

What causes error code 0xc1900200 when updating Windows 10 and how do I resolve?

I have the same trouble. it downloaded automatically and has tried multiple times to install but comes up with same 0xc1900200 error. Drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!! I have an ASUS laptop already running Win 10 and it has a lot of free space still.

i would be over the moon if there was an easy fix for this.

Can you just remove the Windows Upgrade Assistant so it stops trying to download?

If you're having issues with upgrading to the latest version, 1703 is now available on Media Creation Tool so you could do a clean install via USB stick.

In this link I did not find any information on safety or risk to files:
Errort update the system reserved partition - Microsoft Community

It has been confirmed that the recovery partition is of insufficient size for the windows 1607 to 1703 upgrade.

2017-04-06 05:03:00, Info CONX CFreeSystemPartitionDiskSpaceChecker: checked InsufficientSystemPartitionDiskSpace, found HardBlock. Not enough space on partition [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\] Required: 15 MB. Available: 6 MB.

Diskpart can be used to expand this partition.........harddisk volume 2.

The files are not backed up.

Can diskpart be used without placing the files at risk?

If not what other software can be used that keeps the existing files safe on the same drive?
