Windows 10: Win 7 Media Creation Tool

Is there a Media Creation Tool for Win 7? I am thinking of putting Win 7 on a separate disk to dual boot to play some games that won't play on Win 10. Still have Win 7 disks but they take forever to clean install.

Win 10 MediaTool will not open

I can't begin to tell you how sick and tired I am of being directed back to the same old Win 10 instruction on the MS internet site.

The Patil reply above is clearly confused. Yes, I have the IOS. It offers me ONLY a clean install. I want to upgrade my Win 7 home premium.

Before you do the WIN 10 upgrade using the media creation tool, make sure that your WIN 7 is up to date.

 

Nope! You have to create the media yourself from an official ISO image file.

You'll find that there's an MCT available for 8.1 and another for 10, but with Windows 7 you have to provide your product key before MS let you download an ISO - and that has to be a retail key, the OEM CoA key from the sticker on a PC won't work.

Easier than that, you can do it yourself with DiskPart commands. @NavyLCDR explains...

As you still have a Win7 disk, you shouldn't need to download an ISO. You could copy all the files from the disk to a prepared bootable USB.

Yes, the disk is exactly what you'd see if you mounted an ISO of the same disk. Make sure you include the boot files/folders.

Yes thanks, I copied every file that was on the DVD.

 

Is it a disk with SP1, though? If not, making a new drive from an SP1 ISO will save a bunch of updates from having to be installed.
