Windows 10: win10 1903 trying to set up search and encountering problems

Fresh install of 1903. I don't use cortana, and set it to not show on the taskbar.

I click the magnifying glass "search" and see some stuff I have searched for just after install. I don't want history there. I went to "settings", "search" "permissions:.... and there is absolutely no button at the bottom right that says "my search history". The last thing in the column of stuff is "my device history"... which I have turned off.

It appears that to delete my history, I have to find that "my search history" button. Any clue why I don't see it on the settings/search/permissions&history page?

I have the computer set up as a local account if that makes a diff.

Another strange thing is that when I'm on the microscope icon search page and click "manage history" from there, I'm taken to a page with a bunch of big icons of the stuff I've searched..... but no buttons to delete or turn anything off.... just a bunch of useless info saying the timeline history is kept for 30 days etc etc.

While I'm at it, I really only want the microscope search icon click to let me search within my computer. I can't figure out how to set that page to NEVER try to search the web. It's a fancy looking page, but I really just need a simple search...with no internet... and no search-history-keeping.

Any settings guidance will be greatly appreciated!

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

Thank you for the detailed response. To change the search result's view from content to list, we suggest following the steps below:

• Open the File Explorer and try to search for files.
• In the toolbar, open the View tab and click List
  to change the view.
• Once changed, close the File Explorer.
• Open the File Explorer again and try to search to see if the setting has been retained.

I would suggest you to try this steps.

Step 1:

• Type fonts in the search bar and hit enter.
• Click on Font settings.
• Then click on restore default font settings.

Step 2: Try the system file checker to fix corrupted settings.

• Press Windows + X
• Select command prompt.
• Type “Sfc /scannow” without quotes and hit enter.
