WIN10 Automatic Repair Loop after installing Norton Antivus

My HP PC win10 home was working fine until 3 days ago. Although it comes with McAfee, I had Norton installed and did not have any issues. 3 days ago I updated the Definitions and the App. Upon restart, the System went into an "Automatic Repair" loop which fails to repair the system.

1- Using Repair returns (failed to repair)

2- Booting from the CD and using repair Windows (fails to repair)

3- Booting to SAFE MODE fails to boot or repair (choosing option 4 for safe Mode then restarting PC to boot into Safe Mode puts the system into Automatic Repair loop again.

4- Using the Comand Prompt to repair the BCD file fails to repair as system fails to find it (if you copy it from the CD then try to recreate/fix it system fails to find the file

The only thing that works is to return the system to its previous state by using Restore, Image, or Factory Settings which effectively removes Norton and allows the system to boot.

5- If booting into Safe Mode after full recovery, and using Norton Tools to remove the App and files including all Registry entries left behind by regular uninstall and reinstalingl Norton the same happens as soon as you restart the PC. System Boots to Automatic Self Repair!

I have had 4 Norton Reps take remote control of my PC and do all the steps I have done before to no avail. Even the Master Expert guy last time (spent 20 minutes just redoing the registry) failed to fix it as the system failed to boot after he installed Norton and rebooted.

PC works fine with McAfee, PC also worked fine with Norton until 3 days ago, PC also works fine with Norton installed if you don't reboot for any reason which is impossible because the App requires restarts and the system self updates and install windows updates requiring a restart. When that happens the PC BOOTS to AUTOMATIC SELF REPAIR LOOP!

Any suggestions on how to fix this annoying thing?

    :)

  2. Automatic Repair Loop

    Hi Charlene,

Your concern regarding the device going into an Automatic Repair Loop can be caused by change on its settings/configuration or broken system files. To effectively assist you with your concern, can confirm if you've made any changes on your device prior to
    your concern?

As an initial step to get back into the normal Windows screen, we suggest that you perform a
Startup repair. The repair will attempt to fix any broken components/files which may prevent your device from booting properly. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • On theAutomatic Repair screen, select Advanced options.
    • Select Troubleshoot.
    • Select Advanced options.
    • Select Startup Repair.

We'll appreciate if you can send us an update.

    Automatic repair loop

Hi there, thanks for your question.

Here are the steps I generally recommend to fix automatic repair boot loops:

    Use Check Disk Utility

Fix Boot and Rebuild BCD via Command Prompt

    Restore Windows Registry

    Delete the Problematic File

    Disable Automatic Startup Repair

    Check Device Partition and OsdevicePartition

Perform Refresh or Reset Your PC

These steps are listed in detail with instructions in the below article:
