  3. This worked for me (Windows 10, single screen)
    Right click on the desktop
Choose Personalize, Themes, Desktop icon settings
Clear the check box by ALLOW THEMES TO CHANGE DESKTOP ICONS
    OK

I hope this works for you!

Recommendation to Windows Team - unchecked by default. From my research, I see many people have this problem and are spending a lot of time reloading Windows, editing their registry (!), and thinking unhappy thoughts. It took a lot of time to track down this obscure setting.

Sure it works. But sometime later Win 10 drops the arrangement. You go back, re do your icons, fiddle with the box you mentioned...and it works. Later the icons are change back yet again ... ad infinitum. Can you say "ground hog day?"

I had a similar problem with Vista and Win 7, and now on my new Win 10 Pro laptop. Back in Vista days I found a solution which worked on Vista, Win 7 and also works on 10, I just installed it on my Win 10 laptop. I did find a simpler solution for Win 7 about a year ago but can't find it now, It added a right click command to the My Computer icon on the desktop.

The one I still have is called "Desktop Icons.zip" I do not have the link to the website, but googling for the zip file may help. I have uploaded a png file showing the popup menu when one does a shift + right click on the desktop. The png file is from the original zip file, not my laptop.

Here is the best one I know about. I discovered it back in 2009 when I was running vista but I lost track of it until today. It has been updated several times over the years. I have just installed it and it seems fine with Windows 10 64 bit.

    MIDIOX

The website says it works with WIndows 8 and 8.1 and is for 32 and 64 bit. It also works with multiple monitors.
