Windows 10: win10 pro backup error 0x80070002

Win 10 Pro backup error error status wait 2 0x80070002 when trying to setup to backup to USB hard drive. Creates system image OK to USB hard drive.

STATUS_WAIT_2 (0x80070002) error running Windows backup on systems upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro

I'm getting a STATUS_WAIT_2 (0x80070002) error running Windows backup. This is only happening on systems that have been upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. All of our non-upgraded system run Windows backups just fine. All backups are going
to a network location. This error is happening within a few seconds of backup process starting. We have tried checking the file system, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder, and other suggestions, but all have failed. The only thing we can do an image
backup manually. I researched this issue and having found anything involving the error popping up at the begin, mostly at the end with a specific file or folder. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again this is only happening with systems
that have been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro.

 

2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

Hello everyone,

thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
3. Boot up from this USB Drive
4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update

It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.

Method 1 did nothing - the description in the second method does / did not correlate
at all to the options in the Control Panel on Win10 - perhaps you can restate the method using names that come up on the Control Panel screen in Win10. I have admin rights.

There was an additional item that came up during the attempted back up -



I clicked OK and then got this error.



Notice the first message could not ENABLE the backup and the second could not DISABLE the backup - both show the same error code - 0x80070002. This is the same error code that came up and was cited in the earlier message.

Really? these are the same error? They might be looking for the same system file, but they are not the same issue I'd think.

I click OK and the backup utility from WIN7 says "Backup is in progress..."

Hmm... I have my doubts
