Windows 10: Win10 upgrade keeps getting stuck at 86%

But remember the upgrade worked for me last Fall and nothing changed in terms of partitions since then. I reverted because it was unstable.

 

Okay, that's true - partitions shouldn't be your problem then.

Instability can be caused by upgrading with a 3rd-part AV installed.

Do you have Macrium Reflect Free on the system? A screenshot of your partitions from that may be better. It will show everything for sure. But, it looks to me to be a problem. Did you have more than one drive connected to the system when you upgraded the first time?

Drives where the same, yes. It's custom built so no recovery partition. What is missing?

macrium shows the same paritions.

 

Tried again after removing said applications and some more. Again stuck at 86.

One more thing: I assume, since you upgraded this rig once before, that the installation of W10 was "activated" and so you already have a digital license for this system, therefore the deadline for tomorrow's upgrade does not apply to you, correct? Did you verify the system was activated before you rolled back?

EDIT: You'll need to copy that log to your desktop, in order to open it in notepad.

 

See attached the requested file. Note that I hard-rebooted over 2 hrs after the last error. So these are not caused by the forced shutdown.

 

I'm wondering if there is enough free space on that system to successfully upgrade.

 

On the c: drive yes, see previous posts. 280gb free.

EDIT:

I had the issue with free space on a desktop with small ssd but there the upgrade would terminate on itself and fail and did not get stuck like here. (In fact with the upgrade tool it would not start at all)

 

Do you have Hyper-V and Virtual box both running on this system?

I've asked for help with this. You've got a ton of errors in migration, and in the $WINDOWS.~BT. Let's see if anyone else here has any ideas.

 

Virtual box is installed but I have removed it now for trying again.

Hyper-V is not installed (or not that I know of).

Good question but I don't know if I activated it back then. So I'm working under the assumption the deadline applies.

Can I do a clean-install, activate and then move back to 7 and try an upgrade again after the deadline?

Different issue:

What happens when I upgrade my motherboard? (I have win 7 OEM version). If I then need to buy a win10 copy anyway, missing the deadline would not be a big issue then.
