Win10Pro Encrypted File Copy with/without encryption dialogue

I had a brief exchange with microsoft support and was advised to post here. At some point I must have ticked the 'always do this' option with the prompt asking if you want to copy an encrypted file to an unencrypted dir either with or without file encryption. Documentation on how to undo this 'always' action seems insufficient. My best guess, and support assistant Mark also thought, the only way to change this behavior is modifying a registry key. I AM HELPLESS looking through the registry myself, can't say for sure what to look for either. If any wizards out there have a solution for a niche behavioral problem you have my unrelenting gratitude.

    q) Why would you want copies of encrypted files to be unencrypted?

    a) The dialogue is necessary for a case by case basis accounting for the trouble of switching behaviors currently.

    q) Why not just unencrypt the copy?

    a) I am, it is inefficient the larger the data gets. Changing default behavior to ask, like a fresh install, would be more robust.

    :)

Need to encrypt the DVDS for copying!!

Hello everybody, I have a collection of DVDS and would like to continue with that. I sometimes do make copies of the original ones if I am not able to get them but the problem is that some are encrypted and couldn’t be copied. I am looking for a tool that can copy the encrypted ones and be efficient in speed and quality too.

    Hope to get your suggestions!!!!

    File Encryption

    Yes,

That is indeed the way to do it. Please observe the following:

    • Turning off the encryption setting does not remove encryption
    • Hard resetting your device destroys the only copy of the encryption key, and thus your access to these precious pictures.
I would suggest copying them reguraly, or you can automate this using Microsoft's MyPhone service (free).
