Windows 10: Win7 Pro - Error: "0x8007042B - 0x2000D The installation failed ...

Trying to do the "upgrade" to Windows 10 from a legal Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). I've done many of these in the past and had few issues but this is my own personal PC and I need it!

Upgrade aborts with "Error: "0x8007042B - 0x2000D The installation failed" (see below)

I'm having the same problem. I've run it various ways over seven times and always get the same result. This has involved hours and hours of effort. I've removed AVG, disabled ALL the 3rd party stuff I can find and still no dice. I've run SFC and DISM and nothing has been found. DISM on my Win7 Pro is a joke: doesn't even recognize its own options.

I've run SETUPDIAG.EXE and here's what it reports:

I don't pretend to understand what in the world this is saying but I'd really like to know what in the world to do about it so I can get the upgrade done!

Hi, please see the data collection steps in post #3 here
0x8007042B-0x2000D windows 10 problem
except you can skip (2) as I assume you have a 1909 iso and bootable installation disk.
There will be one or two steps you've already performed- simply give the result where this is so.

There a user called @zbook who frequently handles upgrade failures presents a request for relevant data.

Please state the amount of free space on C: and post a screenshot of your partitions using a 3rd party partition manager- not Disk Management, making sure all text is visible.

Please also, as a matter of routine, run these checks:
Disk: HDTune (free) - Health and Error scan tabs and post the result.

From an admin command prompt run
chdsk C: /scan
and post the summary result.

Okay... after trying mrgeek's suggestion it is time to upgrade your backup software.

You can pick your own imaging tool however I recommend Macrium Reflect. Free and widely used on forum. There are others which are also used and recommended on forum.

Your first reaction will be this is over my head. It isn't. The tutorial is long for completeness. It basically works using defaults. Creating the Rescue Boot media is essential including the testing.

Even with the above unfortunately we haven't address your reason for raising the thread.
