Windows 10: Window 10 quit working the beginning of October 2018.

My HP Envy quit working sometime the beginning of October 2018. One morning when I tried to turn it on it went into repair mode saying it couldn't start. No amount of effort to recover it would work. One time it did say a Critical Service Failed. It was a constant loop on all restarts. I could not enter Windows. I was forced to do a factory restore. I was able to use the options to back up my files first.


Since I only have Windows 10 Home, I have zero control over updates and I am relying on Microsoft to properly sequence updates to ensure my computer is back to a running, stable state. The factory restore (if in fact that is what happened, I am not that tech savvy anymore) put my system back to Version 1507, build 10240. I assume it will take considerable time for the updates to "catch up". My problem is that while I am seeing a number of 1507 updates I am also seeing the update service attempting to install a "Feature update 1803" which failed but is redownloading and attempting to install again. I also saw a "cumulative update 1507" failed. I think that one may have been successful after another attempt. really not sure.


It looks like Version 1507 Build 10240 is quite a ways back in the sequence of versions. Will I ever be able to get my Windows 10 back to the current version?

If you have click Checked for updates once, it would continue to download.

Try updating to Windows 10 October update version 1809, manually.

The fastest way to get the upgrade is through Media creation tool or ISO file.
