Window 10 ver 1511 overwrites device drivers - need to reinstall

The original upgrade of my Samsung Q330 laptop from W7 to W10 wiped some of the device drivers, and required the following

    • A physical change of wifi card, since the Broadcom card was incompatible with W10
    • Reinstallation of the Synaptics Touchpad driver software
    • Reinstallation of my HP Deskjet 2540 driver software
I have just upgraded to the 1511(build 10586.3) version of W10 which again wiped these specific drivers, replacing the Touchpad software with a generic PS2 mouse driver and removing the Printer drivers completeley.

So this W10 upgrade has required their reinstall again - at least it was a bit less painful since I had prior knowledge of what was required this time!

So my question is this: Is there any way to stop Windows update/upgrade from overwriting removing these specific device drivers???

The SystemProperties>Hardware>DeviceInstallation Settings now only offers Yes or No to the Question "Do you want to download manufacturers' apps and custom icons that are available for your devices?"

It used to give you further options, one of which was "Never Install driver software from Windows Update", so whether or not selecting "No" will now imply this...?
I consider myself to be reasonably computer literate, so feel sorry for less experienced folk who will have to suffer from the flawed MS Windows upgrade process each time they roll out a new upgrade to W10

    :)

  2. Window 10 ver 1511 build 10586.3 overwrites device drivers so have to go through the whole installation process again.

Hi Grunwalski - seems like everyone with the Q330 and other Samsung laptops was having the same problem with the original incompatible Broadcom wifi, and the recommended replacement card was a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 WB-EG which was a cheap purchase from
    eBay

    Drivers downloaded from here

  3. Window 10 ver 1511 build 10586.3 overwrites device drivers so have to go through the whole installation process again.

That will hide updates, but not a full upgrade (like the 1511 build 10586.3 ), so it looks like a reinstall of drivers will be required every time there's a new roll-out then.
