    I have recently purchased windows 10 laptop and it does not recognise my Toshiba external super multi drive PA3761U-1DV2


    I don't want get rid of my external drive which was working quite well is

    a way I can get it to work

    External hard drive not recognised


    Worked out what the problem was with my external drive notbeing recognised. I looked under Device Manager > USB Controllers and there itwas listed with an exclamation mark with the error saying that "the driverfor this device is in memory" or words to that effect. I right clicked thecorresponding Mass Storage device and uninstalled it and then unplugged theexternal drive. I rebooted my desktop and plugged the external drive in againand it reinstalled its driver again and I am now able to use the external driveagain. window s ten does not recognise my toshiba external super multi drive PA3761U-1DV2 :)

    Windows & not recognising external hard drive

    I am currently running Windows 7 pro, but it won't recognise my toshiba external hard drive. The USB ports are working ok. The drive does work on a Windows 10 machine.

    External hard drive not recognised

    Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.
