  1. Windows 10 100% disk usage after forced shutdown

    Hello,

So I own a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 and a couple of days ago as I was preparing myself to go to bed I closed the computer’s screen. Usually the laptop just goes to sleep but next morning, to my surprise, as I opened the screen again I realized that the screen had somehow stayed on all night and that the computer never actually went to sleep, despite that, my account had logged off somehow and so I tried to log back in. Usually logging in for me doesn’t take more than a couple of seconds but after waiting for what seemed like 10 minutes I decided to force shutdown the computer. After that the computer became insanely slow. Whenever I booted the computer the Lenovo logo would stay on screen forever and then the spinning wheel would appear and after what seemed like an eternity the mouse pointer would finally show up, and after 4 hours or so, the clock with the background would finally appear.

I tried doing a Startup Repair and after a while it showed me an error message.

I tried System Restore and after yet another long time I got another error message.

I tried booting up Windows in safe mode but it was as painfully slow as normal mode.

After restarting multiple times I decided to bite the bullet and just go through with it so that I could at least reach the desktop screen and after hours I managed to do just that and when I opened task manager it showed me two interesting things:

    1. Almost 50% of my memory was being used by Antimalware Service Executable

    2. 100% of my disk was being used by no particular program whatsoever.

It’s worth noting that at this point everytime I restarted the computer it would go through the entire process from booting up to logging in much faster but after that the computer would slow back down.

What’s going on? What should I do?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ps. I disabled Windows Search, it helped at first but disk usage would escalate to 100% after a short while anyway.

    :)

    100% disk usage

The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.
