    Windows 10 10240 Install.

Sorry Matt, but it is just not available for direct download from Microsoft. If you are running build 10166, and are signed on with your MSA as an Insider, and you accept all updates, 10240 may automatically update on your system as it did for me six days ago. Otherwise, I can either advise patience or as another poster here cleverly stated it, look to the "seedier" sites!

  2. If you have an ISO to install Build 10240 with, you have to first use it to upgrade your activated Windows 7 or 8 (or 10 Insider Preview) install by running setup.exe from within the activated qualifying OS. During the upgrade, do NOT enter any Product Key when asked, as Product Key activation is currently disabled. Once you connect to the Internet, Windows 10 Build 10240 will auto-activate. Do not enter any Product Key or try to manually activate before it activates itself.

Once you have a successfully-activated Windows 10 Build 10240 installed, you can then clean-install it on that computer. Again, do not enter a Product Key during the clean install. Your hardware has been registered as qualified for the upgrade by having upgraded from a qualifying OS.

If you then want to join that computer to the continuing Windows Insider Program, you can do that under Windows Update.

I'd consider that as really bad advice.

For heaven's sake, do not upgrade your legitimate system with Beta software!

Activation is not necessary to try out Windows 10

Wait until the real upgrade is available, and then some, before committing yourself.

    Windows 10 10240 Install.

Actually, there are members here that have upgraded 10240 over Win7/Win8.1 and we're set for the final upgrade on the 29th. So yes.. it is a valid way to go.

PS, I did it over a week ago.. 10240 is activated(upgrade over Win8.1) and I'm getting all of the updates without one issue.

My pc had upgraded to Windows 10 Pro version 240 x64 and I created an ISO and DVD from the ESD file, about a week ago. It had upgraded from version 10162. The pc originally had Windows 7 Professional x32 on it.

I purchased a new 3TB drive, 2-days ago, and did a clean install by booting from the Windows 10240 DVD I created. Windows 10 Pro activated right away, 2-days ago (23 July), on the completely clean new drive. I was asked to enter the Windows 10 Pro ver 10240 KEY during installation and did so. No problem getting an activation.

I will ask the member I got a legit 10240 build from to fresh install if it's ok to give the link and PM you with it. However, it will not activate for MS has blocked that for the time being and will not update without activation. Cannot use any personalization either. You will still receive popup survey questions and Participate in the Insiders Hub.

    Please let me know.

    Edit:

Strike that for now with what Antelope just posted.

    Thanks for posting that. *Smile

Not understanding why mine is not activating. According to what I've read so far MS has blocked activation for now.

    What keys did you use?

    Thanks again.

Identical here. Same keys I used and with MS account. I don't get it. Baffled by it actually.

I may be calling MS for activation.

  10. Try changing the Product key in Settings > System > Activation. Ms might have opened up the activation servers again after they closed the Insider Program until after 29 July.

They're too close to the release date to process new insiders. I think the current Insider count is around 5 million - maybe 1 million actively testing, the rest window shopping or looking for a free OS.

Anyway, if your system doesn't auto-activate when you enter the 'new' key, you might try phone activation.

    Good luck,

    Bill

I don't know. Some are still having trouble getting their pc's to upgrade to 10240.

Your existing 10240 install should have a hidden .esd file you can convert to a 10240 ISO and DVD. Here's a link to instructions on how to do that.
