It depends on if you are using Boot Camp or without. If using Bootcamp, you may want to follow this guide to run Windows without Bootcamp. How To Install Windows 8.1 On Mac Without Boot Camp

The only time that you really would need to dual boot on a Macbook, is if you work from home and your employer requires that you use Windows as your main OS, which really you can get away with not using it and just run Mac OS-X, which is 100% times better then Windows.

Microsoft did not mess with any hardware. It is the manufacturers of the hardware or OEM's that do not provide their drivers for Microsoft to add to their Driver Database. Any older hardware items are purged from Windows 10, so you do tend to run into issues.

ATI is owned by AMD now. AMD is coming out with a whole new Control Ce24th, nter that blows the current one away. It is supposed to release on the 24th, which is this Tuesday. Problem is that if you use Legacy drivers for that GPU, you are going to most likely be SOL.

Well, I can't see how everything was perfectly w.r.t booting before the update & now after the update there is a problem (as in extremely long loading on welcome screen) & suddenly it's nvidia & ATI's fault. WTF ? *Huh

Edit: why do I randomly get a fast boot? ... I can't see the GPU driver working correct the one moment & haywire the next *Mad

Tried everything...really frustrating ended up doing clean install of 10240 which solved the problem ie practically straight to desktop after appearance of welcome screen...

Come on MS, sort this out!!

Jigsaw it is not AMD or NVidia's fault, other then NVidia did not have their driver packages ready when 10 came out.

All manufacturers will drop legacy hardware out of their driver packages, because there is no need to support the older stuff.

Windows will try and find the best generic driver for a display device if it can. If not, you are SOL.

This has been the way for a very long time.

The hardware headaches actually started with Win 2k.

I signed up just to chime in and say that I've been experiencing this same problem. It's driving me insane! I've tried just about everything and absolutely cannot figure this one out.

Here are some related articles/forum threads that are directly related to the issue I'm experiencing:

    Windows 10 v 1511 very slow login @ AskWoody.com
Why is caching Intel RST very slow on windows 1... | Intel Communities
Windows 10 10586 and slow login problem - Internet, computers, communication, technology - Thailand Forum

The comments in the first article were quite helpful, but did not solve my problem. The issue wouldn't exist on the first login of a new user account, but after a reboot, any account can potentially take 30-60+ seconds to log into.

The second forum thread on Intel's site could have been somewhat related as well, as I did have a small 16 GB M.2 SSD acting as a transparent cache for one of my HDDs until a few days ago. I removed it as part of my troubleshooting.

That last forum thread is just another person experiencing the same issue, and it directs here.

I really don't understand how it's taking so long to log into an account. I have a rather high-end computer and it shouldn't take more than a couple of seconds to log in, let alone occasionally over a minute. Startup is extremely fast (comfortably under ten seconds). Actual system performance is fantastic once I'm actually logged in.

    Here's my (important) specs:
    Intel Core i7-5820K
256 GB Samsung SSD 840 PRO
    Windows 10 Education x64

This issue only started occurring after the big TH2 update. I've exhausted just about every troubleshooting idea, short of nuking it all and reinstalling (since I removed Windows.old). Here's a non-exhaustive list of many things that I've tried:

•Creating a new, completely independent local account
    •Removing my M.2 SSD
    •Uninstalling Intel RAID drivers entirely
•Uninstalling VMware Player (there were a couple of VMware-related errors generated in Event Viewer; seemingly unrelated)
•Removing all disk drives except for the solid state drive
•Disconnecting the computer from the network
•Disabling the very few startup programs that I have (KeePass/Logitech Download Assistant/OneDrive/Realtek HD Audio Manager/Steam)

MartinMDL, take comfort in knowing that you aren't alone. If you've hit your head against the desk and still haven't found a solution, you certainly seem to be in good company, judging by other responses here.

I'm almost tempted to just nuke the entire install and start from scratch. But I'd rather not go through the hassle only for the issue to rear its ugly head again. :\

See my next post. Hold on doing anything with minitoolbox.

Kodiack, you may have to Nuke it. Run Farbar's Minitoolbox (download from Bleepingcomputer.com). Run it and post the log output in a scrolling box, so that it does not cause a long post.

Only check the List & Report items. I know that they state that it is only for Malware detection. It also helps to diagnose other problems.

There are some other of his tools that work great in these kind of cases.

It could be that you have a bios setting wrong or just that the hard drive is the culprit. Post the mfg & model of the hard drive, along with mfg spec's on it.

Fast Startup & Hibernate is still an issue. Make sure both of those are off. Disable Hibernate in Command with powercfg /hibernate off

I hear you man. Unfortunately there's not much else we can do other than waiting for Ms to, hopefully, fix it with the next batch of updates. Let's hope one of them addresses this and the many other bugs afflicting this current build. Furthermore I read that Microsoft has pulled the TH2 ISOs from their servers, leaving this crappy update available through windows update only. They probably figured out that there's something wrong with this one and it's mos def not official build worthy.
Anyway should you find something else for me and others also affected by this to try don't hesitate to keep us posted thru this thread. *Smile
