Windows 10: Windows 10 10586.3 and slow login problem

I'd like you to try something. Type Event Viewer in the start search bar, click event viewer. Drop down the following check marks in Event Viewer: Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnostics-Performance > Operational. Event ID 100 is boot up time, 200 is shutdown, 101 is Antimalware causing boot issues. I'm not sure what it all means, but I believe I'm getting closer to the root cause of this. It may be related to Windows Defender. Disabling it has had no effect on my login/startup so far but I believe I'm onto something.

 

I wound up nuking the whole install and starting from scratch. Fortunately, the whole reinstall process is quick and easy for me, since I have all of my documents and games on separate drives. I'm back up and running with virtually all of my software configured again in less than two hours. Hoorah for 130 Mbps Internet.

Interestingly, the new Windows 10 Education ISO that I downloaded from MSDNAA came standard with 1511. That saved needing to go through the whole upgrade process again, which is nice.

That's twice this year that I've had to reinstall Windows 10. I've had to reinstall Windows more in the last four months than I otherwise have in the last four years, haha. Hopefully all is good from here, though. *fingers crossed*

 

I decided to make a few more changes slowly to make my desktop comfortable. I made these changes one at a time and restarted to see if any of them caused this issue.

I believe I found the problem: Taskbar auto-hiding. When I have my taskbar auto-hidden, the login is very slow. Without taskbar auto-hiding, login takes under two seconds.

 

I don't have that enabled on my side so it's NOT my cause to the problem ... PS: I find the auto-hide a stupid feature *Tongue

 

What I do have (that wasn't there before) since the update to 1511 is this >





It's on almost every settings page, put it doesn't stop anything from being changed.

Unbelievable!!!! I didn't even have to reinstall windows 10. I haven't actually done that yet. Disabling auto-hide the taskbar fixed my login times! I'm astonished. I don't have the some settings are managed by your organization thing though... I did disable windows defender so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with anything. Pardon my french but this is un-****ing-believable! I just tried that and it works..it frickin works! What on earth does the taskbar and its auto-hiding feature have to do with windows login procedure? It most definitely has to be a bug caused by the new start menu introduced with the 1511 build...funny thing is I don't even use the MS one! I've been using startisback since windows 8, and now i'm on startisback++ which is the windows 10 version. Anyway a great thank you for this, it solved the problem in my case and now login is blazing fast again. All of that without having to reinstall windows again. I hope MS fixes that anyway...I don't know about you guys but I love the smell of auto-hiding taskbar in the morning! *Biggrin

 

Well now fine, since more than 1 confirmed this, I decided to enable auto-hide ... did a restart ... then disabled it again with another restart and have done about 10 restarts since and I must say, so far so good ... holding thumbs *Thumbs*Drink1

Hi guys. My mother has this problem on her Dell inspiron with Windows 8 (and Windows 10 after the upgrade).
She never hid the taskbar and I tried:
I activated the "hidden bar" on taskbar properties; Reboot; Still lag on boot.
So I disabled "hidden bar"; Reboot and lag didn't fix.

The laptop hasn't a SSD but the boot is very slow *Sad

 

???? I did a clean install of this recent build a couple of times.....messed endlessly with the services.msc....to no avail. Lo and behold, taskbar auto-hiding did the trick. Amazing, thanks.

 

Was this problem addressed in the latest update 10586.17 ?? ... just for clarification *Nerd

 

10586.17? I didn't get that update yet in the Netherlands. Perhaps later this day. But did it fix the real problem. Thanks to Kodiack I can work know with 1511 but the real problem hasn't been fixed by microsoft.
