Windows 10: Windows 10 10586 build has a corrupt registry.

is the solution takeown /f C:\windows\regedit.exe and c:\Windows\SysWOW64\regedit.exe & regedit32.exe??
because it continues to crash

 

No, the solution is to grab regedit from C:\Windows.old assuming you have build 10240 in that directory and use that version. The 10586 version of regedit.exe will have the problem no matter what as it can't handle registry keys that are longer than a 255 characters. Like the thread said, you don't even have to fix regedit.exe, just use the Nirsoft Regscanner tool here to search the registry and then once it finds what you want, click on it and it will open that key with regedit.exe

Your solution is almost correct...
takeown /f "C:\Windows\regedit.exe" /r

rename the above file and then copy the regedit.exe I provided in the next post to C:\Windows

sadly i haven't the folder *Sad , i extracted from an image , but it doesn't start *Sad

 

Get it here and place in C:\Windows, you might want to backup the existing regedit.exe there first by renaming it.
