  1. Windows 10 1703 and 1709 Cortana Assistant Installation Anooying!

Starting with Windows 10 Creators Updates, when doing clean installs, it starts up with the Cortana Voice assistant which made my room mate wake up...

Is there any way that someone can know how to modify the source installation files to not to have this function and get it back to the classic setup install?

This is the most lame and stupid and silly installation setup that I ever encountered. I mean really.

There is a way to mute the sound, but still, I think its a bit lame...

I am quite surprised no one out here or anywhere on these tech forums has complained.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 1703 repeated failure - nothing worked

Are you attempting install Windows 10 1703 or 1709?

If its 1709, I would advise you not both upgrading yet, instead, download the Windows 10 1703 ISO. I noticed you mentioned the channels from which you tried to upgrade (Update Assistant, Media Creation Tool), all which offer only 1709.

    See how to download 1703:

Go to Windows Download - #1 Windows ISO Download Source then download the ISO for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1703.

Mount it then start the upgrade.

  3. upgrades to win 10

Windows 10 1709 includes everything that came with Windows 10 1703. There would be no need to install Windows 1703 to get or install Windows 10 1709.

    So, you are fine.

I'd forgotten about that amazing tutorial by Kari. Think it's time for me to give it a try too.

    Thanks cereberus.

I would like to recommend another tutorial instead which shows how to completely bypass any user interaction (including having to mute Cortana assistance). A completely automated custom installer on USB flash drive ; plug in USB, start computer booting from it and go for coffee. Come back some 20+ minutes later and Windows is installed, waiting you to sign in.

All this without a single key press or mouse click. Really, boot from USB and forget it.

Windows 10 1703 and 1709 Cortana Assistant Installation Anooying!

This last one I linked to, it looks complicated and time demanding but it really is quite easy and fast method. Tutorial is long and might give wrong impression about the level of difficulty and expertise required but that's only because I decided for once to make a tut in such a way that any newbie can do it without any prior knowledge about topic simply by following instructions.

I will try to make a new tut by the end of the week about how to upgrade your custom install media, logical continuation for it; if you use half an hour or more to create a custom, automated install media you shouldn't be required to repeat the process when a new build has been released. Luckily there's an easy way to avoid that, a method to simply apply a build upgrade to your custom install media to keep it up to date.

  9. There is a Microphone Icon at the bottom of the screen, click that and Cortana goes quiet. You will then get the same quiet install you get if you install on a device that doesn't have a Microphone or speakers. Not sure if you can click it before she gets that first sentence out though. I've only ever used it to turn her off after she talks for the first time.
