  1. Windows 10 1803 cumulative update killed ASUS laptop

I have a 2010-era ASUS laptop (i5-M460, 4G RAM) that has been running Windows 10 well since RTM, and has been on 1803 since auto-upgrade about a month after it came out. Worked fine until today. The second update of the month came through, and killed the machine. Destroyed the graphics and "turbo-boost" drivers saying they are corrupt but no drivers are available. What? Drivers were available as recently as May of this year when 1803 installed without a hitch. Now there aren't any? Looking at Intel, that might be true - they no longer list Windows 10 drivers for anything older than Gen-3 i-series. What?? Anyway, what next? I'm trying a "fresh start" which is up to 29% after an hour, but if that doesn't work (leaves my widescreen display in VGA mode) what's next? I do have a CD of Windows 7 - could always reinstall that I guess. And Linux on the other partition works fine (Intel apparently has drivers for that...).

When Intel upchucked on the Clover Trail drivers, MS was somehow able to keep things working and committed to updates until 2023. Why do I have to just throw away a computer that was working yesterday because Intel simply deleted drivers that were available until recently? Plan C, I guess would be to use the Win7 (8?) drivers in 10, but my recollection is that it is fiddly at best to install those.

Thinking of suing Intel if that is the source of this. Anybody want to join? Otherwise: what's the story MS?

EDIT: perhaps related? After the update the computer was locked into S mode (Store Apps only). I did not choose that. So again, what happened? The same update did nothing unusual to a 2007-era desktop (Win10 Pro 1803, nVidia graphics) or a cheap junk RCA tablet (Bay Trail Atom, Win10 Home)

EDIT2: I did, already, try using the Device Manager to uninstall the device and driver, then restart and let it do the detection & driver routine. No luck. The only driver without errors is the MS Basic, and it doesn't support the wide screen.

    :)
