  1. Windows 10 1803 to 1903 (0x8007042B - 0x2000D) - please help

I have been trying to update my laptop for last few weeks and keep getting the same error.

    Laptop

    • HP Pavilion G6-1384ea
    • Currently Have windows 10 home 1803
    • 8GB RAM
    • F.66 Bios (latest)
    • 1TB SSD - 50% free

    I keep getting following errors:

    Windows 10 1803 to 1903 (0x8007042B - 0x2000D) - please help df1dcbd3-1cda-4f46-990b-0c28a191ee85?upload=true.png

What I have done so far

    • Tried installation from ISO
    • disconnected all external USB,mouse, keyword etc
    • Ran CCcleaner to fix all registry errors
    • Ran sfc/scannow and DSIM restore health --- no issues found
    • Clean boot with no services running
    • Disabled system restore
    • Not running any security or firewall apart from windows standard

I have pretty much tried everything and still it fails with same error.

    SetupDiag shows the following:

Error: SetupDiag reports fatal migration plug-in failure.

    Last Phase: Safe OS
    Last Operation
: Offline portion of first and oobe boot apply operations

    Plug
    -in Name = %windir%\system32\migration\SxsMigPlugin.dll
    Migration Operation
    = IPostApply->PostApply

    Plug-in Error: 0x00000002

    :)

  2. 0x8007042B-0x2000D - Continuation Thread

You don't think this is related to my 100MB (49MB free) EFI System Partition.

I see that it's recommended to be 500-600+ MB for updates/upgrades?

Should I be booting from the USB drive? Or running it from inside windows, from the ISO file?

Your description seems to suggest creating a bootable USB, mounting the Windows 10 Pro 1803 ISO on it, restarting the PC, booting from the USB, and installing from there?

But then - Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Says:

    So I'm a little confused..?

  3. 0x8007042B-0x2000D windows 10 problem

I had the error codes and same presentation 28% complete on the second pass. I went through all the fixes, then started trying combinations of fixes.

    1. You know how one fix is to download the software and windows media creator offers to write an ISO or a flash drive?
    2. You know how other fix lists say disconnect drives and other peripherals?

Live by 2. That means write the ISO locally, mount it in explorer, run setup.exe from there. If you don't have room, get a bigger system disk.

The other thing that changed prior to the successful upgrade was decluttering. I deleted 70GB of recorded TV under \users\public\video and 2GB under my profile. I doubt this was the fix. Also, this was the second try with a clean boot.

Background: The system was at 1709. There were numerous attempts at 1803 and 1903. Upgrade troubleshooter and assistant were invoked.. I tried installing 1709 in the hopes of fixing a broken installation. Re-installing 1709 broke powershell and I couldn't read the windows update log. I did a clean install another drive just to prove this old system would run 1903. I reverted to my last system backup. Then tried clean boot without success. Then I ran through all installed programs, and whacked every with no immediate need and replaceable (virus checkers(spybot S&D, malware bytes), cpu temp.). Then with clean boot and the locally mounted ISO, upgrade succeeded (1709->1903).

    Edit: cleanup, more info

Bad news. I tried to reproduce the fix, and installing from a local ISO is not enough. Since I have a backup image and a spare drive, I'm trying to isolate.

    - - - Updated - - -

Latest upgrade has gotten past my landmark 28%/29% and seems to be working after 1. Clean boot and 2. shrinking user data.

I had the same 0x8007042B 0x2000D problem. I restored to a spare drive, reproduced it, and tested different approaches. A successful upgrade came from:
    1. more free disk space
    2. smaller AppData (whack the 2GB outlook data file)
    3. clean boot, nothing but MS services.
    4. install from local ISO
