Windows 10: Windows 10 1803_Super Slow Wifi_Update KB4023057

Good Evening,


I am having massive wifi problems on 2 Windows 10 equipped (?) computers.


I went away on holiday and on return the system is running at about 16Kbps, with spikes to the low hundreds Kbps. Modal speed is low teens Kbps.


The problem seems to coincide with the update mentioned above that happened to both computers on 6 Feb 19 which is when I returned home and powered up. They were fine that day, next day - shot to pieces.


I have replaced routers x 3 and now run a brand new Home Hub 6. Ethernet makes no difference. I have an Galaxy Tab A and this runs fine. Speed tests by the ISP (BT in the UK) show 3.5MBps; the Galaxy Tab A gets this speed. I am now convinced this is an issue with Windows, not the ISP hardware.


The 2 computers are a Dell Inspiron 2350 desk top and an Asus X540L laptop. Both use Qualcomm Atheros wireless adapters. The Dell is about 2016 vintage; the Asus 2017.


I have tried network reset on the Dell to no effect. All drivers are showing up to date. The Windows Troubleshooters are not proving of any use.


Any help gratefully received. Please note I am not at all literate with IT.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

This update seems unusual in that it has only been seen in a few select regions. It is not listed in the Windows 10 update history, but there is a KB article for it in all languages...

• The key information there seems to be "Only certain builds of Windows 10 version 1507 and Windows 10 version 1511 require this update".

 

KB4023057 installed as program


I also have Windows 10 1709 : KB4023057 listed in programs and windows update is also trying to install it and failing at 71%
whatever I do !

So I have it already and it's still trying to install it and failing....

Anyone know a sensible course of action to remedy the situation ?
