Windows 10: Windows 10 1809 Sync settings sucks!

So this issue has been bugging me on 1803 and 1809. I have Two laptops and a desktop here at home. Myself, wife and two daughters all use Microsoft accounts to log in to all of the devices. On my account i have switched on the Sync Settings options and turned on all the sub options across all three devices. On one of the laptops i changed the background and the menu colour just as a test and expected the other devices to update accordingly. Eventually 7 days later the background suddenly changed out of the blue on the other devices (had all three machines on at the same time) for no discernible reason . 7 Days to sync a picture, really!! So on the same laptop i changed the background again 3 days ago and once again the other two machines have done nothing!

I think I've read every article on the web about this and tried every "fix" and still it behaves the same. How can a "feature" this poor be released to the public. I have over 20 years experience in IT and i haven't got the foggiest clue how this sync works (or doesn't as the case my be). There doesn't seem be any way to manually tell it to sync. There is nowhere in my account on line that tells me what has synced and from where. The documentation is poor at best just saying turn it on and hey presto it'll work. Is this a Master/Slave setup i.e. one machine will always sync it's settings to the others, in which case which one is the master or should i be able to change the settings on any device and the "latest" settings get synced to each device. What i would be most interesting in knowing is what triggers the sync.

Before anyone suggests creating a new account this behaves the same across all four accounts across all three devices so this is NOT account related.


Any insights or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Stop Windows 10 syncing keyboard settings

I realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with Windows 10. I will certainly help you.

I suggest you to Turn off the Language preference and Ease of access Sync settings and check if it helps. You may follow the steps below and check if it helps:

• Press Windows key and then type Sync your settings.
• Turn off language preference and ease of access.

Cant sync settings in Windows 10

Hi,

To help you better please help us with the below information.

• Did you make any recent software/hardware changes on your computer?
• Have you signed in to your computer using Microsoft account?
• Is the sync settings is greyed out in the settings Windows?

As an initial step I would suggest you sign out of Microsoft account and sign in again, see if the issue is resolved.

Also install all the pending updates on your system and check if it helps.
