Windows 10: Windows 10 1809 Update Failure 0xc1900101

I'm looking for help installing Windows 10 1809. MY PC is custom built, about a year old and has i7-6850 processor with 32 GB memory and Windows 10 Pro x64 v1803 build 17134.472 installed on 5/24/2018.

1809 install has failed twice to install. I was present during the second failure. My PC has 32GB memory The installer expanded the standby memory until the free memory reached 0 twice after which the displays lost their feed but neither the computer or the displays powered down.

After manually stopping and restarting the computer, the install began again automatically. On the third try the install completed without consuming all memory and the computer restarted. Then Windows began getting ready and restarted again at 30% complete.

After the restart, progress stalled at 40%. I left it for about 15 minutes then restarted the PC. On restart, Widows removed changes and booted the existing 1803 version.

I used the "System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files & DISM to fix things SFC cannot" wiki to run SFC twice. Corrupt files were repaired on the first pass and no integrity violations were found on the second pass. I then ran DISM which stalled at 83.6% and eventually terminated with a "source file could not be found" message. I looked at the log but couldn't make any sense of it.

The wiki suggest that I create and reference an image file and run DISM again referencing the image file. But I don't see how that will help. I'm not really trying to repair version 1803 which seems to run fine but I would like to install 1809.

Windows 10 1809 update fails with message 0xc1900101.

I first tried to install Windows 10 update Version 1809 twice on 4th October 2018 with message 0xc1900101.

A couple of days after my failed second attempt I learned of issues with this update so I stopped trying until mid-December.

I have lost track of the number of failed attempts since then.

Windows Update does not recognise that Version 1809 exists. I then tried using Windows 10 update assistant. Downloading V 1809 was fine but when it came to installing the update it failed at 42% of installation and would begin to undo the changes and bring
me back to V 1803.

As stated, I tried many times without Windows 10 update assistant. I tried many times with the assistant as well but come the dreaded figure of 42% installation completion it would fail and begin to undo the changes and back to V 1803.

In my Update history the following is written:

Feature Updates (1)

˅ Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 (2)

Last failed install attempt on 04/10/2018 - 0xc1900101

Windows 10 Updates 1803 and 1809 Fail to install - Error 0xC1900101 0x30017

I have tried everything recommended in similar threads to install updates 1803 and 1809 (my PC is still stuck at 1709):

PC is Dell XPS 8700 with i7-4790, 24GB of RAM, 64-bit processor, 64-bit Windows 10 OS, Latest BIOS A13

• Deleted all old installation directories
• There is (never was) any anti-malware software (other than Windows defender)
• Removed all USB devices other than Microsoft wired mouse and keyboard
• Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter
• Clean Boot (disabled all startup items in msconfig and Task Manager)
  
• Tried all three methods: Windows Update, manually from Microsoft website, and using USB Media Creation Tool

The error is exactly the same on every attempt: "We couldn't install Windows 10... Installation failed in FIRST_BOOT... 0xC1900101 0x30017.

I've been pausing updates for 6 months now to avoid the endless update failure cycle. What is the fix for this?
