    Windows 10 (1903) Boots directly into Windows Recovery but won't recover

    Just a few days ago I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64 1903 (i.e., deleted all existing partitions from within the installer and let it proceed using the entire disk). I've had a couple of failed boots since then where it hangs on the lock screen and won't show the password box, or goes black before showing the lock screen. This morning, it hung on the lock screen, I powered down, restarted, and got "Bootmgr missing." Booted into WinRE from USB, ran startup repair, removed the USB, and now the computer boots directly into the recovery environment. So this is where it's at now, booting WinRE again from USB:

    Startup Repair --> Startup Repair couldn't repair your computer.
    Uninstall Latest Quality Update --> We ran into a problem and won't be able to ...
    System Restore --> To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore
    chkdsk c: /f --> Windows scanned the file system and found no problems
    bcdedit --> Boot configuration data store could not be opened. Configuration registry database is corrupt.
    SFC /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\windows --> did not find any integrity violations
    DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth --> Operation completed successfully
    bootrec /fixmbr --> completed successfully
    bootrec /fixboot --> access is denied
    bootrec /rebuildbcd --> identified windows installations 1 / Cannot create a file when that file already exists
    bcdboot c:\windows /s c: --> Boot files successfully created

    With USB removed, it still boots into the recovery environment. What's going on?

    Desktop computer with Pentium G620, Samsung EVO 840 SSD added as system drive but otherwise totally stock. Was previously running fine on 1803, but upgrade to 1903 failed, which is why I did a clean install of 1903.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    windows 10 boot problems

    I had windows 10 installed on my old laptop, I also had a boot problem, but my HDD just stopped spinning and I was unable to load windows.
    It still had the Asus factory recovery partition which I used to reinstall windows 7.
    I found out that my HDD was fine in windows 7, nothing wrong with it, staying with windows 7 SP1 on this laptop and I stay with windows 8.1 on my main laptop.
    No windows 10 for me!

    Windows 10 USB boot

    Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

    System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

    Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

    So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
    If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

    There is three options:
    Windows 10
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 N

    Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

    System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

    Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
    That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks
