Windows 10: Windows 10 1903 May Update freeze at login screen after update

Dear community,


i have a huge problem with my Desktop PC. It was not possible to install both large updates 1809 and 1903 on my machine. Both updates had the same error however.


My Windows is able to recognize the needed update, to download it completely and to install it. After several restarts (approx. time 1,5h) one can think everything went fine - the login screen appears. Now here the problems start. If i enter my password then the pc freezes. The same appears for safe mode with network drivers. If i boot in the safe mode without network drivers then windows loads but every mouseclick on any windows function causes the system to freeze. If i click on the start menu for instance - freeze.


The only possibility for me was to roll back to 1803.

Does anyone have the same issues and any working solution?


Hardware specs: I am running my machine on AMD Ryzen 1700, 16GB DDR4, Geforce 1070, Samsung SATA SSD. Moreover, 1 TB HDD via USB3 is connected. A WiFi stick is responsible for the internet connection.

Software specs: Windows 7 Pro was migrated to Windows 10 Pro. Cisco Any Connect VPN Client is installed. Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) v19 is installed. The same freeze appeared with v17. Therefore, the update of the antivirus software did not help.


However, it does not make sense to me to deinstall my antivirus software. I tried it and within a range of 6 hours my windows update reported my system is up to date. Shortly after i installed the newest version of Kaspersky Internet Security the update became possible again. Anyway deinstalling an antivirus software to run a windows update is not an option. I think this update rollout will never be accepted by the corporate customers - delete software in order to update the OS.


After my private laptop (Acer Aspire Switch 11V sw5-173) can not be upgrade to this OS version (not qualified) i am even afraid to update my work laptop with all my research data (Dell Latitude 5470).

I would be glad about any hint or reports on the similar misbehaviour of the Windows Update.

Windows 10 Update

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.

Windows 10 fully updated. Mouse freezes now and then.

It may or may not be related but disabling Windows Update sure is a mistake. Note yesterday's major global ransomware attack, as well as the Wannacry attack in May did NOT affect anyone who allowed Windows Update to keep Windows current.

And to that, except for dial up users, Windows downloading updates should not affect anything you are doing as it steps way into the background. How much RAM do you have? What else is running?

Why? Minecraft Doesn't Need Java Installed Anymore; It's Time to Uninstall Java.

If me, I would uninstall ESET and run with Windows Defender and see what happens. If no change, you can always install ESET back, but frankly, I don't see any reason why.
