Windows 10: Windows 10 - 1909 Print jobs go to the wrong printer

We've just deployed 50 or so new Windows 10 computers and there is what appears to be a print routing bug.
Everyone has new hardware, deployed via Windows Configuration designer to domain join/install Office 365.

Note that we don't have any exotic GPO's or printer restrictions set and we're running up against a very random/but recurring issue in Windows 10 - 1909

Default printers are set for the closest one to the end user, most of the time they just have one printer, which is no problem we thought... Murphy laughs in the shadows

With multiple printers, it gets really weird, I select 3rd floor Office Printer which has the green checkmark for default and the job is immediately sent to our remote shipping printer across the city.

Or when printing labels from FedEx, the print job comes out as a PDF... [yes FX is set to the correct label printer]

The test page comes out correctly on each printer, but we can safely say printing from applications is not supposed to be happen in a round-robin fashion.

Reboot was supposed to have fixed it, but not currently a reliable or guaranteed solution...

Here's some of the other printing bugs I've run across:
1- First time printer install - You cannot add this printer, the name is already in use
[How?]
2- Success! This printer has been installed
[Set Name]
Error - This printer cannot be renamed!
[Why?]

Any tips on saving our sanity/taming the madness?

Windows print problem. Every Time! Printer prints job, but on PC it still says "Printing" and no additional job will print.

This happens EVERY time.

It happens on two different printers on two different networks (at home and at work)....so it is a WINDOWS problem, not a PRINTER problem.

Send a job to the printer.

It completes and prints JUST FINE. All is well.

THEN==>>

In the printer window for that printer, it continues to say "Printing" (forever!) even tho the job has successfully completed. If i highlight the job and "Delete" it, it says "Deleting"....forever. No other print job sent will print, as they are all blocked
behind the job that has already successfully printed, and that cannot be manually deleted, either.

So, EVERY TIME the queue must be manually cleared out. The only way i can print another job is a 3-step process

• Go to Services, Stop print queue.
• Go to PRINTERS folder, delete all files.
• Go back to Services, and START print queue.

After those three steps, I can print again...exactly one print job...then it happens the same again for that job. Obviously this is a complete hassle.

I would like specific and definitive instructions not on how to now get WINDOWS to work "normally"...so that when a print job successfully prints and is done, the queue for that printer shows as empty, and so more print jobs can be sent.

If this were a very intermittent occasional problem it might be tolerable. But it happens EVERY TIME with EVERY PRINTER.

Print Jobs not printing to any printer

Hi All,

I have a odd issue with printing.

My printers are connected and running fine (other computers print fine), but when I print my print job flashes in the que and says print job failed when I try to send a test document. When I print from any applications it just does not go anywhere. I have stopped
and restarted the printer service, uninstalled and reinstalled all printers.

This one has me stumped!

Any suggestions crew?

 

Windows 10 Home Won't Print to Remote Printer


I have three computers.
Machine 1: Windows 10 pro, has the USB Brother HL-5040 printer
Machine 2: Windows 10 pro, prints OK to the remote printer.
Machine 3: Windows 10 home, Used to print, but not anymore (THIS IS THE PROBLEM).
I’ve tried everything that I can think of, and would appreciate any suggestions.
I did these steps on Machine 3 that did not work.

1. Remove the printer device.
2. Add a Printer
3. The printer that I want isn’t listed
4. Select a shared printer by name
5. Browse
6. Select the displayed Machine 1.
7. Select the displayed Printer.
8. Next
9. Failure “Connect to Printer”.
10. Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or Hostname
11. Next
12. Set Hostname to Machine 2, and set port name.
13. Detecting TCP/IP Port
14. Additional Port information required.
15. Device Type – Standard, Brother Port Server
16. Next
17. Detecting the Driver Model
18. Install The Print Driver
19. Select Brother and Brother HL-5040
20. Next
21. Replace the Current Driver
22. Printer Name (setting it to HL-5040)
23. Next
24. Do not share this printer
25. Next
26. You’ve successfully added “HL-5040”
27. Finish

Printing on Machine 3 puts the document in the print queue, which reports error printing.
Printing from Machine 2 to the printer on Machine 1 works perfectly.
All three machines are in the same HomeGroup. Machine 3 can access the shared files from Machine 1.
