Windows 10: Windows 10 2004 build 19041.329 lag

I'm running a Lenovo-ideapad-330s with an Intel i7-8550U CPU and 8GM of installed RAM and 512GB SSD and I recently updated to Win 10 2004 build 19041.329.

Since then there are multiple small lags when opening/closing applications, opening settings or other Windows windows and even when trying to open admin tools like the Event Viewer I can see the individual window elements being drawn, whereas on a similar machine a Leonovo yoga 520, with Pentium 4415U, 4GB AM and 256 SSD running Windows 10 1909 build 18363.836, this is almost instant.

I thought this might be a condition of updating, so I reinstalled whilst keeping the data and it still ran slowly, so I reinstalled again, wiping the SSD and doing a fresh install, but it is still running slowly.

Following other advice, I have disabled search indexing and SystemMain/superfetch and this does not improve performance either.


The lag is also affecting video calls - audio works fine but video is laggy, which was not the case before.


This computer is just over a year old, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.


Is there any other settings or tweaks I could try to improve performance? Alternatively, is there a way of installing 1909 instead it would have to be a clean install

Windows 10 Suddenly Starts to Lag

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
