Windows 10: Windows 10 2004 update fails - sorta

I am the SCCM admin for a mid-size University and I have an issue that has occurred on several computers with the latest Windows 10 Enterprise update to build 2004.



The update installed from Software Center and everything went normal. After a reboot, a version check shows that Windows is still running 1909 and not 2004. Checking the Update History, it says that the 2004 update is installed successfully, and there is no option to uninstall.
So, Windows reports it is running v1909, but also reports v2004 update installed successfully. The Update does not have the option to re-install or uninstall. Several reboots have been done and there is no change. The computers all still operates normally, but the update seems to be both installed and not installed. Sort of "Schrödinger's Update".



I was able to fix a couple by just manually running setup.exe from the b2004 media, but that solution is a non-starter. I have 11,000 computes to manage. If 10% have this issue then that’s 1100 people who will have to get a copy of the media and manually run the exe.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

There are enough problems with 2004 that I would wait until it becomes stable enough to push through via WIndows Updates to the PC's if that's possible.

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time
