Windows 10: Windows 10 2018 October Update File Explorer Crashing and Freezing

I've just updated to the new October Update on my laptop (gaming one, obv. above minimun requirements), and I have experienced several performance issues (as expected, I guess). My main problem is the File Explorer; first, for some weird reason I can't open it from the taskbar no matter what (un pin, pin again, cahnge location), next it constantly freezes and crashes, restarting the whole explorer.exe everytime, it happens when moving files, opening certain files with specific programs, creating new folders, saving files and ALWAYS when trying to rename a file or folder (its impossible). I'm doing productivity, organization and developing a website for a small business so this features are really important. Is there a workaround or solution for this? or I'll have to wait for the next update? in which case with I'll be better if I downgrade, and if so how can I do it?

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows explorer crashing

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

Windows 10 April 2018 Update(SCU) Partially Breaks MKV File Support?

I updated to main computer to the April 2018 Update, AKA Spring Creators Update, and it seems like they've taken a step backward with MKV file support. When I go into the properties of an MKV file on the Fall Creators Update, if I go to the details tab it gives me a bunch of detail about he media file, like resolution, framerate, audio information and bitrate. However, if I go into the same file's properties on the April 2018 Update, almost all of the information is blank, it only gives me a runtime and bitrate.

I really just want to confirm that this isn't just my computer and other's are experiencing the same thing.
