Windows 10: Windows 10 6/30/18 Update

Hello!


Since the latest update, I found my computer to be very odd.


1. All my USB ports are not working (though it charges phones), including the SD card slot. The error is Code 10.

2. My laptop does NOT wake up after sleep mode!! Even though I already opened the lid and/or hit the power button. Very frustrating! AND,

3. My laptop does NOT shut down completely either! I have to force shut it down every time by long pressing the power button. The screen is off, but the light indicating that the PC is on/running is lit.


I have done:

a. troubleshooting, multiple times

b. uninstalling, enabling/disabling, and updating the USB Host Controller (for no. 1)

c. plugging my flash drive in and opening the disk management but it doesn't show my flash drive anywhere (for no. 1)

d. installing drivers needed (for no. 1)

e. enabling/disabling the USB selective suspend setting (for no. 1)

f. reset the BIOS (for no. 1)

g. changing the power options, as lid close action = sleep, etc. (for no. 2)

h. command prompt = shutdown /s, power option = power button action to shut down, and the usual shut down = start key > power > shut down (for no. 3)

i. A COMPLETE RESET! (still nothing!)


And I couldn't do a system restore because Windows Defender keeps preventing me from doing a successful one!!


I doubt that this is a problem with my computer's hardware because I have not dropped or spilled anything on my laptop (been really taking good care of it). Plus this thing is just a year old! Everything was working fine until that update... What should I do?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Upgrade on 6-30-2016 disabled my scanner

Hi Grace,

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things.

• Are you referring to Windows update or Windows new build upgrade?
• What is the make and model of the computer?
• What is the make and model of the scanner?

Please do provide us the KB update number or the Windows Build number that was installed on your computer on 6-30-2016.

I suggest you to run the “Hardware troubleshooter” from the below steps and check if it helps.

Run hardware troubleshooter

• Press Windows + X key and go to Control Panel.
• On the Top right click on view by and select large icons.
• Go to troubleshooting.
• On the Left panel click View all items.
• Select Hardware and devices troubleshooter and follow the on screen instructions.
