  1. Windows 10 Acer Aspire S5-371 constant BSOD

I've been getting regular BSOD on my Acer Aspire S5-371. I might get a few days with none and then have days where it happens persistently throughout the day, with seemingly no obvious cause. The laptop won't be under any particularly heavy load before a crash.

The errors are usually either: UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION or CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.

    Steps I've taken:

    - Virus scanner

    - Disabled fast startup

    - Updated graphics drivers via Windows Updates, then manually un/reinstalled graphics driver

    - Ran wsreset.exe

    - Ran sfcscannow, and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    - Fresh start, folowed by a clean install- Registry cleanup via CCleaner

    - Ran the Windows BSOD troubleshooter

None of these have addressed the issue.

My most recent crash dump, analysed by WhoCrashed:

On Wed 03/10/2018 11:03:59 your computer crashed or a problem was reported
    crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\100318-18281-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x1A9490)
    Bugcheck code: 0x154 (0xFFFFC285B79E2000, 0xFFFFD5030A7359F0, 0x2, 0x0)
    Error: UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION
    file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
    company: Microsoft Corporation
    description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This indicates that the store component caught an unexpected exception.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

Acer S5-371 Super Thin Laptop Will Not Install Recent Win 10 Updates.

My Acer S5-371 Super Thin laptop has not been able to install Win 10 updates since 21/05/2018. The last one being Version 1709 KB413466.

The 240 GB SSD is divided into two partitions
C: 100 GB For the OS and software (with 20 GB unused space)
D: 19 GB For all data (with 199 GB unused space)

Windows 10 Acer Aspire S5-371 constant BSOD [IMG]

You can see that it downloads the updates OK but the install fails, and upon the next laptop boot-up in shows a message that the laptop is waiting for a restart to install updates. If I do this, the cycle repeats. If I ignore it, I can use the computer normally but there is a regular notification appearing above the system tray that there are updates awaiting installation.

I thought that the last update to be installed may be the culprit so I restored my C: Drive from an Acronis Back-up made on May 1st which is before this update. Win 10 downloaded them all again and only installed the one dated 21/05/2018. Hence this plan didn't work.

I then found via Google that some SSD's in thin laptops are a problem - so contacted Acer UK Support who confirmed that my laptop model had been tested and will install all the latest updates including Version 1803. They suggested I make more space on the C drive or plug a USB hard drive into the laptop to give Updates more space for temporary files. This didn't help.

The laptop warranty expired 4 months ago and Acer are now suggesting I should send it to them for repair at my cost. I cannot conceive that it is a hardware problem and am loath to do this without further advice.

I am now considering restoring the laptop to factory settings and trying to update Win 10 again. This means I will need to reinstall all my software and data. Before I take this step I would welcome other ideas.

Hi AlanHo. Welcome to the TenForums @AlanHo

The error from your 1803 update suggests checking logs

    From this set of articles.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/win...res#0x800xxxxx

Since you have updates failing as well first this I would so is reset Window Updates.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

As noted in some of the other resolution procedures before doing the 1803 update remove any third party AV and disconnect all USB devices. (if you have any).

I would perform the 1803 upgrade following this tutorial. I recommend backing up data. You need 8GB USB Thumbdrive.

This also means the update is not on your SSD.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Check your stats you provided on SSD usage. Maybe its my math. You could also resize partitions. better to do one step at a time.
