Windows 10: windows 10 activatation after motherboard swap

I recently got a new motherboard for my pc, but when I booted up windows I didn't have an activation license, I ran the troubleshooter, clicked on "I changed hardware recently, and it gave me the option to choose the PC I was currently on, it wasn't listed, only the PC with the old motherboard was on the list, I am using the exact Microsoft account I used when I first activated windows 10, can somebody please help? thanks!

Reactivating Windows After Swapping Motherboard

I need to swap motherboards, and I was wondering how I go about transferring my current windows 10 license to my new computer - I don't have access to the license key, however the desktop is registered to my Microsoft account. I don't currently have access
to the desktop, however, because the current motherboard is damage - it's been years since I installed windows on this computer, so I'm not sure if I'm running it on a digital license or an activatable key. Is there a way to tell what version my desktop is
using via my Microsoft account? I don't want to remove the desktop from my account, add the new version with the new motherboard, and end up losing my version of Windows. Any insight would be appreciated!

 

Windows 10 not activated after motherboard swap

Hi,

I've ran into interesting problem after swapping out my computer's motherboard. The old motherboard contained a windows 8.1 pro key in the bios and the computer was upgraded to window 10 pro. After I swapped out the motherboard, the old one was fried, and
put the new one in, I can't activate windows anymore.

The new motherboard contains a new windows 8.1 key but is there a way to activate it? Or do i simply have to reinstall windows 10?

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
