  1. Windows 10 Activation Woes

I think I might be going crazy

Back in January I purchased a Windows 10 Home License from Microsoft (the full $139 version.) I installed Windows 10 in a virtual machine activated it without issues and went about my business. The VM is used for development and testing, and naturally it got screwed up over time. No worries, Parallels has a nice 'Download Windows 10' feature.

This morning I created a new VM, which worked well, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get this Windows 10 to activate. I'm hoping someone here can give me some guidance.

    What I've tried so far:

    • Loaded to Settings > Activation, which tells me that "Windows reported that no product key was found on your device"
    • Clicked the Troubleshoot button, which only reported that Windows wasn't able to activate Windows 10 on my device.
    • Double checked that the Microsoft account I'm using in that new VM is the same account that I used to purchase Windows 10.
    • Checked my purchase history in the Store app, thinking that maybe I bought it through that channel instead of microsoft.com. No luck there.
    • Selected "I changed hardware on this device recently" (located at the bottom of the activation troubleshooting window." This lead me to another message telling me that the system is unable to activate windows.
    • Logged into my Microsoft account and removed the old VM from my device list, which also didn't seem to do anything.
    • Clicked Changed Product Key, but couldn't find a product key on the receipt, purchase history, etc.
    • Called Microsoft, where an agent started a remote session, and typed my question into bing, all to no avail. I declined to follow their suggestion of upgrading to windows 10 Pro.
    • Scoured the internet for "Deactivate windows 10 license." Found much tribal knowledge, mostly in the form or archaic command prompt tricks, one of which was slmgr.vbs -upk. No idea what that does, but not much to lose here, either way it didn't work.
    • As a hail mary, I also made sure windows was was synced to microsoft's date/time servers and ran updates. I also tried brooding and leaving it alone for a while.

My guess is that I am missing something obvious. I cannot imagine that activating Windows 10 would involve opening a command prompt or downloading an ISO of a specific build or creating install media. Can anyone help my dumb ass?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 10 NOW - Upgrade and ISO direct from microsoft

Click to expand... Yeah I went to that site, why do I need to buy a key?
    I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
    is that causing the problem?

    Windows 10 Activation Woes

DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 10 NOW - Upgrade and ISO direct from microsoft

this search might help you https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sou...o+to+get+it+activated+windows+10+blocked+keys

    From http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/why-activate-windows-10

If you upgraded to Windows 10 for free and ended up in a non-activated state, try following these steps:

    • Go to Start
      Windows 10 Activation Woes [IMG]
, then select Settings > Update & security > Activation.
    • Select Go to Store, and check to see if a valid license is available for your device. If a license isn't available, you'll need to buy Windows from the Store.

      Note
      • This only applies if you haven't made changes to the hardware for your device.

or you could hack it with a crack but please note this is always risky and you don't know what's in the hack
