Windows 10: Windows 10 activation

I was able to upgrade my computer to windows 10 from windows 8.1 for free a few years ago but I had to recently put in a new hard drive as well as a factory reset on my PC. My question is , I tried to reinstall windows 10 again since I was able to upgrade to it a few years ago for free, and I read I was still entitle to that version. I tried to upgrade to it after I did a factory reset of my pc and it asked for a product code. I do not remember getting one. So what do I do or am I still able to upgrade my pc back to windows 10 since it was already upgraded?

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
