Windows 10: Windows 10 Activation

I have downloaded and installed Windows 10 Free as an upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate. This is because Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft.
Although free I understand I will be billed for the Security component in Windows 10. Windows 10 is up and running and is automatically downloading Updates as they occur but keeps calling for Activation key.

I have tried at great length and without success to Activate and Personalise Windows using above key which I was given
How can I either download and pay for a working/valid activation key /license from Microsoft store?

OR

Purchase an OEM copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft?

Can you help a loyal, long time Microsoft end user please?

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
