Windows 10: Windows 10 and DNS

Wondered if anyone had ever hit this problem. My house has been getting rewiring, and being turned off never affected my computer or Ethernet before. All I did was swap the surge plug [contains all the pc/peripherals] from a temporary extension back to the main plug board. When I turned the pc on to log in somewhat later, the Welcome Page had an earth symbol in the RH corner to show that the Internet was inaccessible. Sure enough, it was. Reverting to the old Win 7 pc, I looked up "DNS Server" and found a Command Prompt ritual for sorting out ipconfig. After the Restart, MSN Homepage was still inaccessible, so I opened FIREFOX and found some more help - Network Reset. This procedure didn't finish the job until after a further restart [earth symbol still on WELCOME Page]. There wasn't any additional software to reinstall [hopes!] and all is back to normal.

No, went with a different 3rd party suggestion. Works better. I'm reliant on others for my tech needs that way.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

DNS problems with router

A couple suggestions I have for you:

Update the firmware on the router. Maybe it's getting into a badstate, and a firmware update might fix it. Or if you're comfortable with it, install a custom firmware like dd-wrt. Just make sure its supported on your router first.

Change your DNS to: 8.8.8.8, 4.2.2.1. Might help.

If none of these work, maybe statically set your DNS on your PS3/PC to the IPs you listed, taking the router out of the lookup procedure.

Last option, is look for a new router.
