Windows 10: Windows 10 and Sony VAIO computers - don't upgrade to 10 yet

Most well known PC manufacturers (like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP & Toshiba) are starting to prepare Windows 10 compatible drivers and software after Windows 10 was officially released on July 29. But Sony has yet to make Windows 10 compatible drivers & software and suggests not to upgrade to Windows 10 yet as noted on the Sony support site.

According to that Sony support site, if a Sony computer had Win8.1 pre-installed, Win10 compatible drivers & software won't be available until October 2015 while Sony computers that had Win8 pre-installed, the Win10 compatible drivers & software for those machines won't be available until November 2015.

It looks like Sony users will have to wait longer until Win10 compatible applications and drivers are ready to be released.

Has anyone using sony vaio computers upgraded to windows 10? Sony website tells its customers to wait till November to upgrade their drivers for windows 10. If anyone using sony vaio system upgraded to win 10 without any failure, please reply.

Vaio drivers will not be available until October 2015. Sony advises that you do not upgrade until teh drivers are ready.

Your thread should be a sticky. The Sony site is not very clear on Windows 7 - the only thing posted is a date for upgrade INFORMATION, nothing about drivers for machines shipped with Win7 SP1 installed.

Side note: Sony sold their PC business last year, but they are committing resources to the Win10 upgrade.

The blanket information about machines with pre-installed Windows 7 for Sony Vaio PCs is incorrect. I have a Vaio VPCEJ1Z1E that was shipped with Windows 7. The compatibility list on the Sony web site shows this model as fully compatible with Windows 10.

I have been running Windows 10 on it for a few days with no problems. I had problems with the upgrade but they were all known and apply to any PC with windows 7. The upgrade only works from Windows Upgrade and I had to run SURT to fix some file problems.

 

I believe this mostly refers to the utilities rather than drivers. For example, I had trouble finding a version of VAIO Smart Network that would install and work correctly under Windows 10.

 

The already installed version on my PC works fine.

 

It wouldn't make much sense for Sony to claim their products are Windows 10 compatible if you cannot perform a clean install.

 

SONY makes great Video Camcoaders i have three,but with Computers i am not so sure if i can trust them keeping them updated.
This is a good example to me as they have up graded the video camcoarder program drivers..

 

Actually, I think this is a smart move from Sony. I wish HP had done the same -- would have prevented my HP laptop from being rendered unusable by a faulty update tool that claimed it was 100% ready for Win10, when clearly, it was not. Every day, lots of folks post new update-related issues to the HP forums, and HP appears to be doing nothing about this. At least Sony tried to get their folks to wait until new drivers were ready.

 

It's been well known for a long time that HP under it's new CEO,has plans to drop their computer lines. So it just stands to reason that the support for these computers they have sold has slipped.
I am betting HP has cut the people supporting their computers a lot.

The smart network software was pre installed on my Windows 7 PC. It continued to work with Windows 10. I can't find any version number for it.

I have a Vaio VPCSE2 and the issue I had was that the login screen did not give me any fields to enter my credentials and log in. The computer is pretty useless if you can't log into it. Only thing I could really do is access some small icons in the lower right for wireless connection or accessibility options.

After much testing I found if booting it with the wireless switch off, I would have a login screen. I could log in using cached domain credentials but the login scripts would not run because once I logged in and flipped the switch, it was too late. Because it seemed this was linked to the wireless switch, I updated to the latest Intel wifi drivers for the 6325 advanced-n card in the laptop. It still did not correct the problem. I use the built in restore tool to go back to my currently working Windows 8.1 install (which was a clean install at the time - laptop originally shipped with 7 Pro on it).
