  2. So, you have an unpatched, and potentially unsecure system? *Rolleyes

    If you don't want 1607, as far as I know, all you have to do it turn on "Defer Feature Updates". Other patches etc will still be installed.

    I believe this option is available on Pro but not Home though?

    If I perform/receive an update installation, no drives go missing;
    if I perform a clean install, I have random missing drives frequently.

    I don't know if it this still works, You can fool windows into thinking your Ethernet connection is metered and it won't do a feature upgrade, just security updates. There is a tutorial here on windows 10 forum.

    @Edwin

    I had the same problem on a clean install. Here is what I did. I go to the windows update dialog in settings. Leave it open, wait tell it updates. Restart when completed getting all your drivers & other updates. Repeat and it should install Microsoft defender update, sometimes it will say it failed, when it didn't.

    I came to the conclusion that Windows would not fetch SATA Controller drivers on a clean install so, I always go with an upgrade and just left it at that.

  11. I'm going to stay away from the AU until it "stabilizes". It sure sounds like a lot of problems for such an "important" update.

  12. Keep in mind, people with issues are quick to post their issues on an online forum like this.
    Those that don't have any issues, hardly ever start a thread just to say nothing happened. *Wink
    Thus things will almost always appear to be a lot worse than they really are.

    For me it was something like 1 of 10 had an issue. Maybe even 1 or 12. I've lost track of how many test upgrades and clean installs I did.
    I've been using PC's since DOS and this is the one and only time anything like this has ever happened to me. I consider it a one of.
    Just my 2 cents. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

    And I appreciate that ... I was in database management for over 25 years, and I've learned it isn't so good on the "bleeding edge" sometimes. And you are absolutely correct about folks tending to report problems not good things.

    I had also a Problem with External 1TB HDD, after trying to repair Disk, I ended up losing almost all Data.
    It happened 12h after I upgrade from 8.1 to 10 (1511).

    The Common situation for all user´s is that, it is happening with External USB connected Devices. So, may be this is the Root of the Problem.

  15. The drive I had go MIA was an internal SATA spinner.
