Yes, it's not worth removing the update just get it working again but I am still surprised MS has not addressed it.

    I'm not.

In my experience this is the exact kind of minor issue that should be really easy to fix - just switch desktop icon text justification from left justify to centered - but it somehow takes Microsoft months to address while they fix other obscure minor bugs that affect only a handful of people at most instead. This happened with the Xbox One controller bug (ghost movement to the left in many Unity engine games), thankfully now fixed but it took them a year, and the Start menu bug, which would only display 512 shortcuts (so in my case only about 40% of installed programs and games were listed), again that is now fixed but it took four months to do so.

What is particularly frustrating in this case is that we cannot fix this ourselves with, say, a simple registry tweak because Microsoft have been dumbing down how Windows works since Windows 8 removing features that previous versions had.

  3. Totally agree. Not quite sure what MS addresses with their useless cumulative updates as they certainly don't fix the obvious. If anything their 'updates' make things worse with new bugs at times. This particular thing discussed here is irritating, it looks awful. And yes that 512 start menu limitation was a shocker, sadly QA testing at MS seems to be off the agenda and even if insiders report bugs found, glaring ones, they get ignored

I came to the same conclusion as you. It's like MS fired any Quality Assurance staff they had. They claim it has cost the company 1.5 billion dollars to develop Windows 10 so far. A full year of giving it away has certainly taken its toll on the company I would imagine,

I'm in the Insiders Program and have reported the text alignment issue at least 3 times already along with others. If their "working" on this I don't see it. A new release preview was just issued a few days ago to bring the Anniversary Update to build 14393.447 and this is still a persistent issue in this build as well. The fast ring update releases new updates about every week and I had been running one of those 14942 I think it was, and even that has the icon text alignment problem. The fast ring updates/installs are a complete disaster, so much so, that I had to start over from scratch to get away from them.

Like others I'm just waiting for MS to release an update that corrects for this shortcoming. Having to use 3rd party software to regain what's supposed to be working by default is just not something I really want to do. I like a clean system that's easy to navigate without more bolted on nonsense. Other than the text alignment the current release build is good. They seemed to have fixed the Mail app and notifications for it, finally. Also a few more minor options have been imported from Control Panel to the Settings application. I'm sure there is other behind the scenes fixes and updates but I can not tell what they are.

  6. Grrr, how come nobody at MS seems to notice or think this is an issue. It looks rubbish. It's almost as if they don't use their own OS in their everyday lives or else they would surely be more aware of the irritating glitches. I don't know what goes on with all these updates etc but I barely notice anything much changing for the good. I am sure things do change but they are probably irrelevant to the average joe user. It's almost as annoying as the buggy Apple iOS and when they shoehorn an update out - giving jack all for bugs and adding things like emoticons! Waste of time

Seems that our friends on the MS window 10 forums have come up with a fix, which you can find at

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files/anyone-else-seeing-text-justification-issues-in/ab720c58-f8f6-43d9-b5fa-09eb4c8fe657

It comes with a few caveats...If you are unfamiliar with spanish it could be a little challenging, you need to create a restore point before using it and save a copy of the relevant reg keys before trying it.
Another contributor has kindly taken the pain away by translating the relevant parts with precautions to be taken.
I have tried it and it works. Simple reg tweak, hard to track down, but our spanish friend found it. Can't understand why MS couldn't have come up with it, but at least its up on their forum. The bonus is that the fix does not require any third party software.

I guess someone could put it all into one bat file for you, then it's just one file to execute.

    - Presently it's back up 3 keys (you don't have to do that if you take the risk) + run a bat file.

  12. Is this still a problem in creators update or did MS finally fix it? I've not been upgraded yet but am curious. I'd be pretty disgusted if MS has not addressed this yet

nop, they haven't addressed it. You'd be surprised? I'm surprised in your faith at micro$oft
personally, I'm having an issue when I right-click delete it crashes explorer. I've also reinstalled Windows and it still does it. Just avoid the update altogether, I beg of you.

I just accept that since those are just shortcuts they didn't want to build in much in the way of editing of the text beyond the renaming of them.
