  1. Windows 10 - Automatic Log Off at exactly Midnight 12:00pm

    Hello,

    I have an Intel Compustick, factory loaded with Windows 10;

    We use it as a digital signage casting device;

    Every morning we find that the PC had logged out overnight and are presented with the log on screen & prompt;

    I maticulously put the powerplans to maximum performance, put 'Never' to screen idle period and so on;

    All of the above to no avail;

    As it only happened overnight and I did spot checks seeing it logged off as early as 1am, I followed a hunch and watched the screen from just before midnight - IT TURNS OUT MY HUNCH WAS SPOT ON

    I witnessed, at exctly 12:00pm a pop-up stating the system was logging off in 30 seconds - and nothing could be done about it;

    So what setting is causing this absolute time log-off (not relative after x minutes of inactivity but exactly at 12pm) ???

    I checked the Shell/Scheduler, there is no configuration there and other than that I have no idea where to look for this;

    Also I have no additional software running apart from TeamViewer and the Signage software, both are running on dozens of our systems without displaying this behavior, among them there are another 3 Intel Compustics ...

    Help !

    Kris.

    :)

  2. Recurring Daily - Windows Refocuses to Desktop at 12:00 (Midnight)

    Win 10 Pro - Upgraded from Win 7

    Hi guys, I have had an issue ever since I built this computer, but only at this point has it become much more of a nuisance.

    Problem:At midnight each day, if I am working/using an application in full screen mode (such as a full-screened game or movie), the system will automatically focus on the desktop. Think "ALT+TAB" but to desktop. The symptom does not sure for things applications in windowed-fullscreen.

    Troubleshooting:

    • Enabling & disabling the following showed no difference: "Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Maintenance"
    • I do not have dropbox or similar syncing software that requires some sort of pull from a cloud
    • Full scan performed with Malwarebytes and Windows defender

    Any help or suggestions or where to look is highly appreciated!

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Launch the Store from your Start menu.
    • Click the user icon next to the search box.
    • Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
    • Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
    • When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”

    Windows 10 - Automatic Log Off at exactly Midnight 12:00pm

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
