    Windows 10 Backup Failure Error code: 0x81000019


    Looking to see if anyone can help...

    Windows 10 from a Windows 7 upgrade.
    Windows 7 system backups worked fine, stopped after migration.

    Get the following error:

    Also see lots of errors in the event viewer about VSS issues

    Interesting one is the volume shadow copy service times out and then stops:

    The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout.

    I have to start the volume shadow copy service manually after.


    I've tried:

    "Clean Boot" - https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/929135
    disabled startups and non ms services - no change

    Tried a sfc /scannow - which reported no errors

    chkdsk reports no errors

    It talks about low disk space in one of the event viewer entries but there is 40GB free


    Any help would be appreciated.

    Correct, I do have VSS set to Automatic, but as mentioned above, I do see it time out.

    I think I am heading in the right direction, it is looking like the issue is with the VSS system.
    I ran the script at the bottom of your article and it did not help, and actually when I downloaded it, I had already run it back in July *Smile

    I am currently trying:

    "The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout" - event - Microsoft Community

    I try to create a restore point:

    But it errors out:

    When I run vssadmin list writers I get some that are timing out, the WMI Writer and the MSSearch Service Writer
