Windows 10: Windows 10 - Bad System Config Info

Hi All


I am hoping someone can help me diagnose a problem with a windows 10 machine.


It is a HP Touchsmart 520 PC


It was working up to a week ago, and it came up with a message to say it was updating windows. My friend let it do its thing and went to bed.


In the morning, it wouldn't start and comes up with the blue screen and the Bad System Config Info error.


I have tried the following:


1. Checked BCDEdit and the entries are there for the OS. OS is on Drive D.

2. recreated the BCD, by first renaming it to .old and then used the bootrec command and created it. It found the OS and added it to BCD. But still the same error.

3. Checked the file system ( echo listvolume | diskpart" and all volumes are appearing ok with no errors.


4. Tried to book into safe mode, and safe mode with networking. Both are coming up with the same error and doesn't even go to safe mode. To confirm for safe mode, whe nit give you the list, you just press the number that corresponds to what you want? I tried both number and also FunctionX but both the same.


5. Tried to do a system recovery, and says it can't complete.


6. Tried to uinstall latest updates from the maintenance window, comes up with error saying it can't complete.



Any help appreciated as to where to go next

Bad system config info and failure to launch windows 10

Windows 10 on a Dell XPS about 1.5 yrs old

turned machine on and got the Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart; bad system config info.

Went through the multiple suggestions to fix, repair or restore but none of them were successful. Seemed to get a consistent response that a problem was encountered and therefore no the problem couldn’t be resolved.

Under troubleshoot attempted the prompt command option. The message under the Microsoft Windows [version 10.0.17134.1] said not enough resources available to process this command.

I found a video on youtube to address the bad system config info issue and followed the steps as presented.

After going through that process my system still won’t boot up.

there apprared to be enough free space on C.

Bad System Config Info

Hi John,

Thanks so much for your suggestion. Sadly, the fixes did not work, and I'm still getting "bad system config info."

MS support is still not honoring phone calls reserved in advance/promises to call back in a few minutes-- must say I'm disappointed.

Any further ideas?

Bad system config info Windows 10

After i upgrade to W10, on a Toshiba Sattellite, L845 SP202, i5 4 gb RAM, i had no sound...

Then, when i restarted, it shows a blue screen with the Bad system config info...

I tried every step the system adviced, but nothing seems to work...

Not even go back to W7
