Windows 10 Black Screen During Install

    Update 4..

It got to 91% on the step and 73% overall (exactly the same place where it stopped last time), and restarted. Dell screen loaded, HDD flickered, and I got really excited...

... Until it stayed on again. Now its back to the same black screen and HDD light as before. So no success on that attempt. :/

    Update 5...

I restarted once, back to same screen.. Restarted a second time, and its recovering my previous windows now. So I have no idea what is going on.

Windows 10 Black Screen During Install

    Hi

Think I have the same type of problem. Upgrading from Win 7 on an HP TM2 notebook ATI Radeon card, seemed to be going OK. After 4 hours with black screen, tried a reboot. Get past BIOS, Blue Windows logo and rotating circle, then a brief flashing cursor top left, then black screen. No mouse, but HD activity. Pulling power and rebooting get same thing.

CTR ALT DEL doesn't work, so in limbo.

Glad I did a full disc image backup in Win 7 now. If all else fails.

  5. I have the same computer (Dell Inspiron 7537) and thats the fourth time I try to install Windows 10, with no luck.

The first time, I performed the update from Windows Update. It got stuck on 75% of the installation. Once I force reset, It reverted to Windows 8.

The second and the third time, I updated from here:

    Windows 10

One of them got stuck in a blue screen after the installation and configuration that said "wait a moment". I waited for an hour, restarted some times, nothing to do. I installed again Windows 8.1, updated from the link, and complete the installation and configuration, and managed to go to the desktop. It worked untill I restarted: In the next boot, the laptop freezes every time I entered the password and loaded the desktop, so I couldn't do anythin.

The forth one, I installed again Windows 8.1 (clean). During the installation, it askied me to update to Windows 10, so I accepted. Now the laptop is always stuck in welcome (or configuration) screen. It says "Hi again", with a button that says "next", but when I move the mouse or the trackpad, it freezes so I can't do anything and I have to force power off. If I connect my mouse, it doesn't even turn the lights it have on, so the laptop is totally stuck.

I'm starting to think there is some kind of incompatibility problem with our Dell.

Im going to try something different..

I followed these steps Fix for the 80240020 error when trying to install Windows 10 : windows
and am currently re downloading everything on a clean folder. My thinking is that maybe there was a corrupted file some where that prevented it installing? I have no idea if a fix for a different issue will help ours, but its worth a shot I guess.

can you disbale the non-intel gfx card in the bios before upgrading?
then if it works, install Dell's Win 10 drivers for it and re-enable it? (I am at work and cannot test this)

I couldn't find anything about disabling the card in the BIOS, but maybe I can disable it through the device manager. Ill try that then another attempt at the install lol.

I have the same issue. same laptop. Its the problem with the driver that microsoft is forcing us to install. its trying to force us install the latest drivers which is the problem and we cannot disable it!! the latest stable driver is 347.88 from Nvidia but microsoft is not downloading dat one, its making us install the 353.63 which is so crappy. I wonder how we are going to get to use windows 10.... trying to figure out a way ughh frustrating microsoft!!!!

    This fix worked for me.
If you are at the black screen and cursor, then Microsoft says you may be at your boot signon screen but are unable to view the screen. The sign on is still there. So here is their fix:
    1. Push the control key. (This moves the focus to the password box)
    2. Enter your logon password and push <Enter>. (When I did this the cursor vanished.)
NOW WAIT. It took my relatively fast Alien computer about 5 minutes to finish the set up and (SMILE) there was Windows 10.
NOTE: If you have been pushing on the keyboard, you may need to reboot to get to a clean log on page to perform the above log on in the dark.
    GOOD LUCK.

  13. Windows 10 Black Screen During Install

Yesterday I started to think my laptop's graphic card was broken, is really the problem the graphic driver? I always had that problem installing a newer driver than 347.88, my laptop stopped working even in Windows 8.

Taken from another thread where I posted the same problem...

"I had the same problem with my Inspiron - after contacting tech support, they told me that this model is not yet compatible with windows 10 and if you restart it (maybe several times), it will switch back the old operating system!
    I hope that this helps."

looks like we are out of things to do but wait for a compatibility patch :/
