    Windows 10 Black Screen During Install


    THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH WINDOWS 10.

    Below is a Microsoft Knoledge Base entry from April of this year.

    "The lock screen in Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 might appear as a black screen with a mouse cursor
    Symptoms

    When you sign out of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 and return to the lock screen, you might see only a black screen with a responsive mouse cursor. Pressing the Alt+Tab keys or the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys has no visible effect.
    Workaround

    If you are experiencing this issue, follow these steps to sign into Windows:

    At the black screen, press the Ctrl key once on an attached physical keyboard. (You won’t see any visible change, but pressing the Ctrl key will place the cursor in the password box that you’re currently not able to see.)

    Now type the password of the user that just signed out and press Enter.This will sign you back into Windows and the desktop will appear.

    If you failed to sign in because you mistyped the password, press Enter once more. Then retype the password and press Enter." ...

    PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INSTALLING WINDOWS 10. AFTER ENTERING YOUR PASSWORD, THE CURSOR SHOULD VANISH FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHILE WINDOWS COMPLETES THE INSTALL SETUP. MY COMPUTER, A FAST ALIENWARE, TOOK ABOUT FIVE MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE SETUP AND THEN THE WINDOWS 10 DESKTOP APPEARED.

    Windows 10 Black Screen During Install

    Same thing has been happening with me - it completed 75% and then black screen for about 2 hours. I've not done anything yet though

    I'm using an Acer Aspire Z5801 with an i3 processor

    I wonder if this is the dual screen problem. Try this:

    When you get the blkack screen, wait 5 minutes or so then press Winkey + P. That normally brings up the Project flyin on the right side of the screen:

    Press the down arrow twice then press Enter.
    If that doesn't show anything, repeat but press the down arrow three times then Enter.

    I tried that but it didn't work.

    UPDATE: I forced shutdown and restarted the computer which led to the computer restoring to the previous version of windows. I spoke to someone from Microsoft and they said to try several things but it may be due to one or more of your drivers needing an update.

    just my 2cent...I had the same issue with a dell inspiron and looking here and there I've found a bios update dated june 2015 with improvement and fixes for the intel video card. Installed the update and everything was upgraded just fine with Win10

    I also have a Dell Inspiron 7537, with the Geforce GT750m graphics card

    After struggling with this for 2 days, screwing up my windows 8.1 installation and having to do a system restore, I think the above is what helped me successfully install windows 10.

    Here's a bunch of things I did during the successful installation run:

    1. Update Bios, and restart.
    2. Update all drivers. The GFx driver version should be 353.62. I used the Geforce Experience software for my update. Restart again.
    3. Run Windows update one last time, and restart.
    4. Use the media creation tool to make an ISO of the windows 10 installation.
    5. Mount the ISO on a virtual drive and start the installation.
    6. When asked if you want to update drivers, say no.
    7. Let the installation run.
    8. When it is reaches 75 % and restarts (this is where it was freezing before), smash F8 to start in safe mode (not sure if that helped).

    When I did all of the above, I was successful. I am not sure which steps are necessary and which ones were useless. But all of the above, when done together, worked.

    OMG IT WORKS GUYS... thank you for the help in this forum! Updating the bios from Dell works and the new gfx drivers from Nvidia works! yay I can use Windows 10! Hopefully there is no problems... fingers crossed*
