Windows 10: Windows 10 Boots to Black Desktop Background

It's a problem with DWM then, does that DISM command that worked so well under Windows 8 still work here?

Look up "Black Screen of Death", it's usually a black screen with only a mouse- Started all the way back in Vista. I've seen BSOD refer to both Blue and Black, but Blue is usually associated with a full system halt with an error message showing. Black is usually associated with the black screen with only mouse cursor showing.

 

So you updated in both cases? What did you do, roll back to windows 8 and then re-upgrade? Or did you do a totally clean install of 10 from the disk you made?

Should maybe run the DISM command then. There should be a tutorial for it in the tutorials section. Seems like your Desktop Windows Manager is gone blooey, try a DISM or a full in-place install over the top of what you have.

 

Look back in post, thread starter used SFC and DISM they work fine, just no help to them in post. I get what you mean for rest.

 

Did upgrade over Windows 8.1 first, because as told you can not do clean install first have to do an upgrade first. Then i did clean install from ISO i burned to a disc, all went fine. As i am not one with issue, as said before thread starter used DISM and SFC, look back here, no luck for him with that. Tutorials are plentiful here, take a look yourself and read through some install posts.
