Windows 10: Windows 10 - Can't adjust brightness despite GPU Driver update

Hallo,


I began having this problem a couple of weeks ago. My screen brightness has gotten really dim, as if it's set on the lowest setting out of nowhere, even though it it is set to 100% on all settings.


I went to the device manager, and found out that there was a yellow triangle next to my GTX 1060m GPU, and when I click on properties, it says: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".


I thought to myself, ok, must be a driver issue, probably after the recent windows update, so I updated the drivers to the latest one, the laptop restarts, and voila everything works great again... well... that's only until I finish using my laptop and shut it down/put it in sleep. The next time I start it up, the same issue is back again, as if Windows didn't properly reload the drivers or something like that. Restarting wouldn't help. The only thing that makes it work is a fresh driver install, which will only work until the next time the laptop goes to sleep.

Brightness can not be adjusted.

• What is the make and model of your device?
• Were you able to see any error message/ error code with this issue?
• Have you tried to install all the pending updates for drivers and Windows Updates on your device?

This issue might have happened due to corrupted/ outdated drivers.

I suggest you to refer to the below Microsoft article, try the troubleshooting steps suggested to change the brightness and check if it helps.

Cannot adjust display brightness in Windows 10

Step 1: I suggest you to update the Display drivers
and check if it helps you.

Refer:
Uninstall and Reinstall the graphics card drivers

If that doesn't help uninstall and reinstall latest graphic driver from manufacturer's website.

Note: Update all the drivers and also install all the pending updates and check.

Step 2: After installing and Updating refer the below steps to check how to automatically adjust the brightness.

• Press Windows + I keys and select System.
• Select Display and check the Adjust brightness automatically
• Restart the machine.

laptop won't sleep can't adjust brightness

Also, follow the steps provided below and check if you are able to adjust the brightness.

• Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
• Expand Display Adapters.
• Right click on the driver and select Update Driver Software.
• Follow the on-screen prompts to update the driver.
