Windows 10: Windows 10 cant install drivers for USB mass storage device

I'm having trouble getting windows 10 to recognise my SD card reader. It finds the reader itself with no issues, installing it under device manager as a USB Mass Storage Device. However, it doesnt install the drivers for the SD card slots in the disk drive part. When I try to update them both automatically and manually, it says it found the drivers but couldn't install them, and access was denied





I have tried resetting windows 10, which did work for a while, but once it had updated, it stopped working again. The device works fine on another PC, it just seems to be this one. Any help would be great

• What are the troubleshooting steps you've done so far after your media player stopped recognizing the portable drive?
• Do you have the updated USB driver on the current operating system that you are using?

Mass storage USB driver not installed by 6.83

migget - I tried several things more or less indiscriminately. I don't know which of these steps was the one that made the difference, and some of them may have been unnecessary:

• Removed PC Suite from the startup list, using Vista’s Software Explorer. The same thing can be done with msconfig in XP.

• Studied the entries in Services at Computer Management for anything related to portable drives, PnP, USB, smart cards, etc. and set them to Automatic.

• Enabled legacy USB support in my BIOS.

• Restarted the PC.

• Connected the CA-53 cable and set the phone to mass storage.

• Pointed the driver installer to Windows/System32.

• A couple of drivers – Windows Portable Device Driver was one of them - were installed but not enabled, so I enabled them in Device Manager.

I’d like to be more specific, but it was all a very seat-of-the-pants experience.

• Yes, I have an updated Windows 10 on my computer.
• I have been trying to google the solutions and these past couple days I have been trying to update my device driver in Device Manager. However, none of the item under "disk drive" or "storage controllers" has the option to update the drive to "USB mass
  storage device". I also tried to update the driver by pointing the update path to "C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository" but still can't seem to fix it.
• I am not sure if I have the updated USB driver on my Windows 10 PC. When I checked the USB controller under Device Manager, it says the software for the device is up to date.
