Windows 10: Windows 10 changing mic volume all the time

I'm on Windows 10 21H1 build 19043.2130. Mic volume level of USB Audio CODEC device is changing all the time. I need to adjust it before I go live. It started some time ago after an update not sure which. I did not change or reinstall any drivers or settings.It also works differently now. It used to be that max level, 100% is +0db and you just keep it on that. But now the middle is 0db and anything above is boost that distorts sound horribly. That on it's own would not be the problem. But now levels keep changing all the time.I know apps could change it now like zoom but it keeps changing

I know apps could change it now (like zoom) but it keeps changing after restart even if I don't start any mic apps or touch any mic level settings. The bottom line is it used to work fine.

Is there any way to fix it?

 

Adjusting Mic Volume for different programs

Trying to figure this out here. My mic volume has been fine in TS or Skype. But I recently picked up Dxtory and my mic is quiet in there. I have mic volume set to 100 and no Mic boost. I'd rather not use boost, but today I tried it out and it worked fine. Then I realized Dxtory is connected directly to the volume for your mic in Windows. Which is no problem I figured I would just drop down TS and Skypes outbound volume and be fine. Well Skype that works fine with, but it seems I can't in TS. So I'm stuck with 2 programs (TS and Dxtory), both tied to Windows Sound Settings, but one picks up my voice fine and the other picks it up low. I can't think of a way around it, any ideas here?

 

Cortana changes Mic volume to 100%

I agree! On mine, it changes the volume from 100% to 34% and i have to manually change it back after using Cortana.

There is a catch though... If this is added as a feature of Cortana, I think the changes in Mic volume from within Cortana should only affect Cortana.

For example:

User changes volume of the mic in Cortana to 85%, but has it set to 100% in system volume settings.

When the user says "Hey Cortana!" Cortana would change the mic volume to 85% while she's listening, then change it back to 100% when she's not listening.
